Something definitely was going on between her and the redhead King. I could tell from the sultry glances she darted his way now and then.
Diamond in the rough. The one word to describe Ruby because it took Gavin showing her a little kindness to shine attractively. But the king could never stoop so low to bed an Omega.

For a man who appreciated and surrounded himself with beauty and class, the king had standards–high standards and taste in his women. Well, no one said an Omega couldn’t dream of being with the high king.
She could only dream.
Just the thoughts of my mate desiring another man, plain in her gazes when she looked at the preppy king made my blood boil a hundred degrees. In a few more months, when Gavin and his troop were off my territory, this lowly runt was going to get it from me.
My gaze shifted back to her to catch her dreamily gawking at the King as he went through his remark. Her admiration and lust for him unmasked.

My wolf growled, aching to smack her loosened jaws tight and to rip her eyes off him and fix them my way. My way?

Louisa was all my heart desired. Beautiful and perfect for the Luna position she occupied effortlessly well. Sexy and well- mannered. If I ever grew bored of Louisa then the blonde tracker on the King’s team who made my loins burn more than twice was a better option.
Denise Coleman was absent from the hall, the only way these men were able to focus on getting educated on the newly invented explosives added to the mile–long list of weapons to be used against the Outlanders.
The Outlanders. The task at hand came back to my mind. Defeating these barbarians should’ve been the only thought in my head. My attention should’ve focused solely on the silver dust introduced as a lethal force against the Outlanders but why then did my gaze wander to where the pathetic Omega sat in the honors seat, a few seats away from the high king? Among powerful and fearful men as Kirk and Norman Blu? How the hell was it so easy for them to accept a runt as a teammate, Listener or not.
Ruby had no idea how lucky she was. The high king had her under his protection. Dumb hog. Telling Gavin I hurt her. I was going to fix her soon. Fix her real good.
When the seminar was over and a few of my Pack warriors came over to discuss a few observations on the silver dust, Gavin
came over to me.
What now? Threaten me the more into staying away from his whore? Oh wait, Ruby wasn’t good enough to be classified as the king’s whore.
“Great speech on our newest addition.” I sounded cheerful. My wolf grumbled at the aura emanating from Gavin.
“We will patrol the borders again tonight.” Gavin slapped me on the shoulder, “Great job last night, Nathan.”
I nodded and with that, he moved over to listen to a few complaints from the soldiers if ever there were any and then he

moved towards the entrance acting like the ogling girl didn’t exist.
Just as suspected. Gavin was too great a leader to soil his strength with the low energy of a runt. Ruby could only dream.
– “Well?”
Louisa blinked at me the second I returned to my mansion to get ready for another night of patrol.
I muffled an exhausted breath and fixed my gaze on her for more information about what she was asking for.
“Did you give my little gift to her?”
Denise. Oh. Louisa was going out of her way to click with Denise. Extremely exhausting.
I shook my head and unbuttoned my shirt.
“Why not? I’m making efforts for us. The least you can do is be cooperative.”
“Give her your gifts yourself!”

“Denise and the king are destined to end up together. Have you thought of the good it could do us if they’re married in a few months and I’m best friends with the High Queen of the kingdom?”
I paused, Louisa was smarter than I imagined. Her efforts to become friends with the flashy and promiscuous Blondie made
sense to me.
Or if I was the high Queen’s secret lover.
That made sense.
“There’ll be a banquet in two nights. A wonderful time to mingle.”
“My cousin?” She scrunched her nose, “The dirty runts still sticking to the king like flies to a candy?” She scorned, “I saw how desperate she was at the party with Norman Blu. Shameless slut. Norman’s Stassie’s man.”
We’d been together for a while now and it was sickening how Louisa couldn’t see these gossips actually pissed me off.
She must’ve caught the exasperation in my gaze because she went abruptly silent, moved to the expansive glass wall, and leaned against it.
“Should we try again tonight?” Her tone was quiet, eyes on her fingers.
Shit. I didn’t want this conversation. Not when I’ll be on guard tonight at the borders. We’ve been trying to have a baby for a while now and each time my face knotted up in silent rage Louisa wallowed in her insecurities.
“I’ll be busy at the border tonight.” I took one large step to her, planted a quick kiss on her lips, and brightened her up again. “We’re going to have a baby when all this is over. For now, the goddess knows the timing isn’t right.”
Having an heir was important to me. But not as important as the task at hand. This destiny was too glorious to let some distractions snatch it from me.
Defeating these foes was certainly going to go down in history. Doing it alongside the High king was only going to rank me most powerful amongst all the Alphas of the kingdom.
As I stood in the warm shower spray, I couldn’t shake off the thoughts of Ruby’s eyes. Beautiful green eyes, how brightly they would sparkle if we made love.
