Chapter 21
KING GAVIN ACKERMAN
“Our skill sets are up against an unreachable temal here! Der by cally blonde babbers Ow team’s tried every trick in the book for weeks now!
Fuck it!
These Outlanders were smarter than I’d imagined them to be
She caught the disappointment on my face and added, “1 know this way to my d
“You’re failing the process, 1 fought the anger in my tone. My eyes sewwwd the wwe on with more than four fundad computer wizards working. “Find new tricks, we med hark we the Owinders dem the sex but won
Denise nodded wearily, probably worn out from the drill even though she was fred in a domy dont and dean, face sinely painted, she looked extremely worn out
Maybe i was overworking everyone.
My eyes drifted to where Ruby stood by the desk where Drew set writing relentlessly at the thougies die was filling kis tad with
1 speared her gaze. A sweet smile curled on her sensuous lips, one that dammed straight to my heart. She looked beautiful in a simple dress, her pecan hair nicely made, the tendrils begging me to touch them
I audibly cleared the jab in my throat, shifting my gaze to a more productive part of the room. Oying at a girl I couldn’t have during work was gross insanity,
Instead of going the opposite direction, my legs pulled me closer to where my mate stood in the room. Her smiles doubled Her beauty radiated.
“She’s doing absolutely great, boss Drew commended. His gaze glued on the pad he wrote on
I nodded and made to leave, but Ruby grabbed my arm causing me to whirl around. This sudden move made her chest bump into my arm, a soft gasp escaped her lips. The colors on her cheeks darkened.
“Anything else?” Not sure why I sounded so raspy
Her gaze held mine captive as we stood in the corner of the room like it was just us two in the room filled with hundreds of people. The worst place to be so sexually aware of our proximity.
Anyone could’ve easily spotted the tension between us,
I jerked out of her grip, planting a scowl on my face to scare her off. It worked all the time.
“I’m sorry.” She looked down on her toes sticking out of the mules she wore.
Her apologetic tone nicked my heart. No, she didn’t do anything wrong. Well, aside from the fact that she appeared too appealing for my liking. As the day went by, it felt harder to ignore her.
“Denise’s lying about not being able to break into the encryption.” She whispered in one breath.
I caught her firm gaze but tried not to hold it. My gaze on her would expose the sexual war waging inside of me.
“Why the hell would she lie about such critical things?” This wasn’t even a nice place to discuss this.

My face hardened at her words. The frustration I felt a few minutes ago stirred up in me. What did Ruby think this was? A joke?
“Get back to your task…”
“All the thoughts in the room align. They’re all frustrated they can’t hack into the Outlanders database.” She lowered her voice, “Your girlfriend can. But she wants you to bribe her first.”
Bribe? What the hell was Ruby talking about? Her enchanting green orbs sparkled with sincerity, I was confused but immensely shocked how I didn’t doubt her.
“Your Majesty,” Denise returned, handing me a dossier, “You’re right, there’s a new trick we can use.” Her blue eyes dropped on Ruby. Snapping her perfectly manicured fingers, she dismissed her.
The way Denise brushed her off sparked a flame of fury in my soul. She was my goddess–ordained mate. Runt or not.
“It’s going to be a pretty hard nut to crack,” Denise batted her thick lashes, her tone teasing with a hint of seduction, she leaned into me, her soft fingers touching my arm and lingering for a moment, “You know I’d do anything for you.”
The mischievous glints in her eyes played out the angle this conversation was tilting to. Ruby was right.
I glanced at the corner to see Drew’s annoyed and impatient gaze on Ruby while her green eyes were directed our way.
“Could you quit gawking at that lowly pathetic creature?” Denise’s voice broke my gaze from Ruby back to her. “It’ll be a shame to get involved with an Omega.”
“I need results, not new tricks.” I choose to dwell on the formal edge of the conversation. My involvement with Ruby was off- topic.
“I see the way you look at her,” she scoffed, “King Gavin Ackerman, Chief of staff of the strongest Lycan military now desires to be with a runt? No, you wouldn’t want to stoop to such a level of weakness.”
A wailing noise from one of the alarm systems filled the air, affecting everyone in the room. Mostly Ruby.
She sealed her ears with her palms and dropped to her knees. I made to move towards her, not sure how I could help reduce her pain but Denise grabbed my arm restraining me.
Denise’s words were muffled by the wailing security alarm which finally died off.
“Return to your duty,” I instructed her, a bit relieved Ruby seemed alright.
“I’ll buy you dinner tonight.” She hit down on her lower lips, “It’s been ages since we dined together.” She must’ve seen disapproval in my disgruntled stare because she quickly added, “We’ll discuss business. There’s quite a few fraudulent activities going on around here that I can’t spill here, or anywhere else except over a nice dinner.”
“Six p.m., tonight.”
I moved away from the excitement on her face towards the surveillance team. Denise had a point. Getting involved with a runt was only going to taint my strength. One of the many reasons why I kept my distance.
All I needed to do was to reject her then the jobs would erode. She could stay under my protection but there certainly was no chance for love, or this consuming lust to thrive.
If I doused my lust tonight it would go a long way to haul me from this ever budding temptation. The goddess certainly was tempting to see the extent I’d go to protect my strength by tossing a ravishing Omega before me.
Smart decision–making was my strong suit. Tonight was going to make that clear.
