“Let’s walk in the garden, I think that will make you feel better Drew chuckled, trying to uplift my spirit.
If only Gavin had the slightest idea how badly I’d wanted to please him with my gift. The thoughts Id put into the things I scribbled down just to make him see that I was worthy of being around him.

I blinked at Drew. I’d never had chocolates in my life. So yes, I would love them.

“I must’ve heard wrong.” I got to my feet, it was never wise to wait around after stealing, I reached for the chocolate
box, “Thank you. I feel a lot better now and I must return to studying the notepad.”

He eyed me like he suspected something was off about me.
I hurriedly bustled towards the door.
Then it hit me. The vow I made to Gavin I would never steal again.
Well, when I thought he was going to fall in love with me and we’ll live happily ever after. Now I snuck out of my fairytale world, I chose to do what made me happy.
I reached my room in no time, took out the money, five hundred dollars. Not bad. A smile curled on my lips. My lucky day.
I bit into the chocolate, Drew was right, the great taste was uplifting. Orgasmic.
I passed on dinner that evening, afraid to run into Gavin or his girlfriend. The evening sky was beautiful so I sat by the window appreciating the perfect work of art above me, thinking of what it felt like not being a runt. Being just as sexy and elegant as Denise. Wishing I was Denise, getting all of Gavin’s attention.
The hammering knock on my door brought me instantly alerted. Drew was on the doorstep when I opened the door, his face knotted.
“Hey.” I smiled. Unsure of why he was here.
He pushed into the room and shut the door. “Did you take from this wallet?”
My spirit left me. How did he know?
“No, why would you think that?” The instinctive reply that accompanied stealing.

“Denise left this wallet at the club last night and I need to give it back to her. Some cash is missing”
“Then go look for it.” 1 blinked nervously.
“This could escalate, Ruby, I know you took the money. He stretched out his hand as though to receive it.
“I didn’t take it.” My raised voice suggested I was lying.

“Well then, my apologies for assuming. I’ll leave now.” But he didn’t attempt to leave the room. “You could’ve just asked me if you needed some cash.”
“Would you have given me?” I blinked at him. He sounded so kind and true.
“Put the money back this second, or I will inform the high king.”
I walked to the drawers and retrieved the money, handing it to him. The disgust on his face was palpable.
“Could you not tell the king?”
“And the chocolates.” He added. “You don’t deserve to have them.”
I took out what was left of the chocolate box and returned it to him.
“I can’t have you around me. Let’s keep our distance from now on.” He turned back out of the room.
I returned to the window. With tears streaming down my face. I didn’t need anyone around me. People left me, not like I had expected my friendship with Drew to last. Not with anyone else around here.
