RUBY DOUGLAS
“Where in the hell are you coming from?”

Gavin indignantly planted his sturdy frame by the mini bar in the living area, towering and intimidating, when I returned to the mansion that evening.
“I went visiting,” I mumbled.
The sound of his phone disrupted whatever he was about to say, giving me a chance to creep to my room.
So, Evelyn wasn’t coming to this party, my first drunk night simply would be all by myself.
I stripped and stepped into the shower. Stood still with my eyes screwed tight in the warm spray, Gavin’s image displayed before my mind’s eye. Every time he was near, my wolf became restless, excited. What were these feelings I had from just the thought of him?
Why did my body react in such an unholy way to him?
I turned off the shower when my reeling nerves calmed, found a towel, and wrapped it around my chest. Strengthened my hair and allowed it to drop, considering how Gavin gawked my way the last time I had them down. I found an ankle–length chiffon skirt with a matching top. Loving the tiny orchids imprinted on the fabric. I moisturized my face and used a lip balm.
I looked beautiful in the mirror.
Drew said he would pick me up. There and then I remembered I had a phone. I took it off the bed where I left it to see about a hundred missed calls from an unknown ID. I just got this phone, no one had this number. I called back this person but they never answered. Two more times, then I gave up.
Drew waited in the living room with a smile on his face, his boss gone from the bar which made it easier to breathe.
“It’s a party and nothing serious Ruby.” He chuckled at my outfit.
“I thought in case the night grows colder.”
He nodded and led the way toward the mansion’s party wing.
I’d always been an antisocial Omega, and thinking of having people at this party accelerated my heartbeat.
Music blared through the speakers when we stepped into the vast hall, the lights, and the tone of the hall looked nothing like I’d imagined. A lot more people here than I’d expected to see.
“Can I go back now?” My anxiety kicked in.
“Don’t be silly.” Drew chuckled, “You’re going to love it.”
He made his way through the few people grinding on each other on the dance floor. A few men slapped him on the shoulder and briskly shook hands with him. A few Pack members I could recognize flashed me this weird gaze that suggested they thought Drew and I were together. Romantically.
Drew was a handsome guy, not any older than I was, twenty? Twenty–two? But certainly not any older than twenty–three. Between us, the sparks and attraction I felt whenever I was with Gavin was missing.
He stopped at a table, leaning over to shake hands with a few more men before he found us a table. The table next to ours was occupied by the people I expected to see tonight, not Gavin. Did he not say he had more important things to take care

Denise eraddled the word redhead ruler, her blonde head buried in the crook of his neck, her body clad in the skimpiest dress I’d ever een twisted on him to the beat of the blaring music. They looked relaxed, so much in love.
Gavin’s red eyes darted my way and I instantly averted my gaze to drop on Norman, sandwiched between Stassie and Elena, Louie’s super men best friends and there was Nathan and of course his Luna and a few other faces I couldn’t recognize at the large table
“A shot of tequila should get you started Drew gendy nudged me with his elbow, I peeled my gaze from their table.
“Can I just leave?
It took seeing Denise and the object of my fancy locking lips to want to run away with my tail between my legs. I did not belong here
“Are you alright? Drew traced my gaze to Gavin, instantly realizing why tears brimmed in my eyes. He looked utterly confused. And leaned into me so his lips were just an inch from my ear, “Do you like our king?”
I couldn’t even lie. But I’d be embarrassed to death to admit I had a mountain–sized crush on the ferocious king,
Norman Blu left their table to join ours. Taking a seat closer to me than demanded. His sandalwood teased my nostrils. He smelt great. He looked absolutely good. He stretched a drink at me with a sexy crooked smile on his lips.
“What is this?” I asked, cocking my chin to the glass in his hand.
“Bourbon. Alcohol” He leaned in to brush a stray strand of hair from my face with his pinky, “Party’s the best place to drink.” True. I received the drink. Culped and shuddered. He chuckled. “Alcohol’s just like sex, it gets better after the first few times.
“Or sex’s like alcohol. It gets better after the first time.” I quoted Evelyn and chuckled. Didn’t expect Norman to burst out laughing
“Pretty funny too” He took a sip of his drink.
“Is that Bourbon?”
“Tequila,” He took another sip and stretched his glass my way, “Want to try?”
I nodded and reached for his glass. He muttered something to Drew and he nodded and left towards Gavin’s table forcing me to look at Gavin’s table.
Denise was now on the sofa, Gavin’s gaze unwavering from our table. He looked more like he’d just been stepped on.
“I think I like tequila better.” In all honesty..
Norman took the glass of bourbon. Our fingers lightly brushed and instantly, his thoughts rose above the music in my ears.
Norman thought of kissing me.
“You want to kiss me?” The question left my mouth before I actually thought about it.
He edges way closer to me, “Don’t move.” He leaned in closer until I felt his breath on my face. His eyes weren’t on me but on the other table.
“What are you doing?” I asked blankly.
He brushed back my hair softly, and leaned in more, “Remain still, it’s called a bait.”
A what?

Gavin’s sudden presence at our table rudely interrupted Norman’s lips from meeting mine. The blond guy snapped to his feet and accidentally bumped into Gavin. It all happened in a flash when Norman swapped whatever he took out of Gavin’s leather jacket with the item he surreptitiously whipped out of his pocket. Gavin seemed to be oblivious to his actions.
What in the hell just happened?
