She held me, walking back toward her office, murmuring to herself. Roxy, hearing her words, completel broke down, but dared not make a sound. When my sister gently laid me on the bed in her office, Roxy scra mbled forward and knelt before me, banging her head on the floor until her forehead was a bloody mess.
My sister waved a hand. “Get a doctor.”
Roxy scrambled up and ran out, not even bothering to wipe the blood from her face.
Jessica was left behind, frozen in panic. Sensing my sister’s murderous gaze, her legs gave out and she fe to her knees. “I’m sorry, Boss! I didn’t know he was your brother!”
My sister hissed, gesturing for silence. “My brother is sleeping. Don’t wake him.”
Jessica immediately fell silent. My sister gave a nod to her bodyguards, and they seized Jessica, draggin her out. She struggled in panic, wanting to beg for her life but not daring to make a sound. She knew that i she woke me, my sister would have her tongue cut out.
Once outside, Jessica kowtowed desperately. “I’m sorry, Boss, I really didn’t know! It was all a misundersta
nding!”
My sister used the toe of her shoe to lift Jessica’s chin, studying her face. “Mm. You do look like one o those starlets from the television. No wonder my brother liked you.”
She seemed to drift into a memory. “He always loved those trashy domestic soap operas. Always pestering me about finding a pretty girlfriend just like them. Heh. He doesn’t understand. The more beautiful somethi ng is, the more deadly. Just like his own face. The moment he leaves my protection, he’s so easily deceived so easily hurt. But he just won’t listen to me. Am I wrong?”
She nudged Jessica’s chin with her shoe.
Jessica, a mess of snot and tears, nodded frantically. “You’re right! He’s too handsome and too innocent! That’s why he ended up with a scumbag like me!”
“Since he was with you,” my sister asked, “did you never once think of protecting him?”
Jessica looked into my sister’s bloodthirsty eyes and sobbed. “I did! For the past two years, I truly loved him! We were happy together, but I was forced! Boss, I owed a huge debt! Leo didn’t want me to get hurt, so he came up with this plan himself to pay it off for me! Believe me, I love him!”
