Chapter 24
In the conference room, Fabian was leading the morning meeting when his assistant, Taylor, walked in holding a phone.
Fabian shot her a surprised look before taking the call.
On the other end came Ella’s voice. “Sir, Mrs. Elkedonia is sick. Her fever’s reached 102.7 degrees. I’m really worried she won’t make it through.”
Though the Ella’s tone was exaggerated, the message was clear.
Fabian was about to respond when he noticed the executives watching him. He smiled casually. “It’s Chesca. She’s not feeling well and called to sweet–talk me into coming home early.”
The executives exchanged glances…
If it weren’t for the couple’s recent tensions, they might’ve actually believed it.

After his public display of affection, Fabian quietly instructed Ella to take good care of Chesca, promising to return home early. His every word exuded husbandly concern.
Once he finished, Fabian hung up and continued the meeting.
His first announcement was Veronica’s removal from the Yolo Export project. She would no longer participate in any meetings or activities related to the project–effectively sidelining her completely.
The top brass at Leshine were collectively stunned.
Mrs. Elkedonia’s influence was truly something to behold!
Fabian offered no explanation, of course.
After the meeting concluded, he returned directly to his office.

No sooner had he settled in than Taylor pushed open the door, looking troubled. “Veronica’s
causing a scene outside. She’s demanding an explanation from you.”
Fabian took a sip of coffee, laughing coldly. “What explanation does she need? She was
never part of the Yolo project. What I promised her was just a temporary fix.”
Taylor could see it clearly now: Fabian didn’t like Veronica.
But why then…?
Leaning back in his leather chair, Fabian considered briefly before issuing quiet instructions. “Tell her that Yolo has issues with her. Tell her not to come back to the office,
but we’ll still pay her salary every month.”
Taylor understood. Veronica was being iced out.
She brought up another matter. “After you ended the partnership with Cortez & Sterling, several projects have been left without legal counsel. You’ve never used the in–house legal
team…”
Almost without thinking, Fabian replied, “Arrange a meeting with that lawyer, Ezekiel Joseph. He’s capable and knows how to handle things.”
Taylor nodded and left to make the arrangements.

As the door opened and closed, Veronica’s shrill complaints could be heard from outside, but they didn’t affect Fabian in the slightest.
At five in the afternoon, Fabian left work early.
He stopped at a florist and bought a bouquet of white roses.
Back in his car, the elegant white blooms rested on the passenger seat, their petals dewy and sensual, reminiscent of a passionate woman…
Fabian turned his head, studying them for a long moment before starting the engine.
The black Rolls–Royce pulled into the driveway as twilight descended. The aroma of cooking

wafted from the kitchen, giving the mansion a homey atmosphere.
Fabian grabbed the flowers and stepped out of the car, striding briskly through the front
door.
When Ella saw him, her jaw dropped.
After years of service in this household, she had never once seen the master bring flowers to his wife. Had the world turned upside down?
“How’s Chesca feeling?” Fabian didn’t pause.
Ella snapped back to attention. “She’s quite weak, sir. She’s been worried about infecting her grandmother, so she hasn’t gone to the hospital.”
Fabian paused, turning back. “Send up some chicken broth with toast and fresh fruit. Nothing too heavy.”
“Mr. Fabian’s really showing care.” Ella beamed.
Fabian gave her a look before turning to climb the stairs. The light caught his refined features, highlighting the aristocratic contours of his face.
Moments later, he pushed open the master bedroom door.
The room was quiet, a soft scent of perfume lingering in the air, Chesca lay in bed,
seemingly asleep.
Fabian approached and knelt beside the bed, brushing strands of hair from her face before checking her temperature with his palm.
She was still feverish.
Chesca woke, meeting Fabian’s gaze through fever–clouded eyes. “You’re home?” Her voice
was soft and fragile.
Fabian’s heart skipped a beat.

He stroked her face gently, murmuring, “I’ve asked for some soup to be brought up. Eat first, then rest. How’s your feeling now?”
His touch was tender, almost as if petting a beloved pet. Chesca found it strange.
She reached up to feel his forehead: normal temperature.
Fabian laughed softly. “What’s wrong with me caring about you? Didn’t you always complain I wasn’t attentive enough?”
Chesca leaned against the headboard, her expression serene. “That was back then. It’s different now.”
Fabian’s dark eyes intensified. “So eager to leave me?”
Chesca was about to respond when a knock interrupted them.
Ella entered with a tray containing not just soup, toast and fruit, but also Chesca’s medication. She placed everything in the sitting area and tactfully withdrew.
Fabian turned to Chesca. “I’ll carry you over.
Before she could refuse, he had lifted her into his arms.
Her robe provided minimal coverage, especially for her slender, pale legs. She felt exposed, but there was no way to hide it.

Fabian’s gaze lowered slightly. “Why bother hiding? I’ve seen every inch of you.”
Chesca was speechless.
If Fabian wanted to play the devoted husband, she’d go along with it. Life would be easier that way. So when he sat her on his lap, she didn’t resist…

Her fair thighs contrasted against his charcoal gray trousers, creating an intimate tableau.
Chesca’s heart fluttered.

Sure enough, he leaned in to whisper near her ear. “Just put these pants on today.”
Chesca couldn’t think of a response, especially with her head spinning. She could only rest against his shoulder as he fed her spoonfuls of soup.
After half a bowl, Chesca regained some strength. She tried to move off his lap, but Fabian’s
arm tightened around her waist, his strength clearly asserting dominance.
Chesca’s voice grew urgent. “Fabian!”
“Hmm?”

He was deliberately unhurried, as if he hadn’t been the one making advances. He discovered he enjoyed seeing Chesca lose her composure–the way her gloden hair spread across white pillows sent a thrill through him.
Fabian classified this as a purely physical response.
Chesca noticed the white roses. She reached out to pick them up, examining them carefully.

She thought about how different things might have been if Fabian had treated her this way when they first married.

The love might be gone, but at least she would have had beautiful memories, instead of the mess they had now.
“What are you thinking?”

“Just that I never thought you’d go out of your way to win a woman over, Fabian.”
Her obvious deflection triggered his displeasure.
Fabian removed the

into a lingering kiss.
