Chapter 22
To her surprise, Fabian stopped.
He looked down at Chesca beneath him, his Adam’s apple bobbing visibly as he fought for
control…

After a long pause, he lifted himself off her, relenting.
“Go wash up,” he said, his expression unreadable.
As Chesca stood, her legs trembled beneath her. Stumbling to the bathroom, she was startled by her reflection–she looked a mess, utterly disheveled.

In the bedroom, Fabian onto the other side of the bed…
After catching his breath, he reached for the nightstand drawer and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. He shook one out and placed it between his lips, but ultimately moved toward the floor–to–ceiling window in the floor–to–ceiling window in the living room. He stood there smoking slowly.
The warm light cast across Fabian’s face, creating highlights and shadows. His eyelashes cast delicate shadows, framing his sharp features in a strikingly handsome way…
His fingers trembled slightly, rising and falling as pale blue smoke drifted upward, only to be dispersed by the night breeze.
The smoke blurred his features.
Gazing into the thick darkness, his thoughts in turmoil.
It was just Zeno with the crush, so why was he losing control like this? He was acting like a jealous husband, wanting to lock his wife away from other men.
Fabian knew with certainty that he didn’t love Chesca–this had to be possessiveness talking,
He simply disliked his wife being coveted by others. Maybe he felt a little guilty toward her

too. That was all.
Chesca wasn’t that important.
With this realization, Fabian felt unburdened. He crushed out his cigarette and walked directly back to the master bedroom.
From the bathroom came the sound of running water.
Chesca was showering.

In the steamy bathroom, she stood under the shower head, letting hot water cascade over her body. Transparent rivulets traced paths through her waterfall of gloden hair, flowing past the small crimson birthmark on her skin, disappearing into the curves of her body.
She was pure, natural beauty in the soft light.
Fabian slid open the glass door. Hearing the sound, Chesca turned toward him.
His gaze was bottomless, filled with unmistakable male desire that made Chesca tremble
slightly.
Soon after, he unbuttoned his shirt and stepped toward her.
One hand cupped her face, the other circled her waist as he bent to kiss her…
The bathroom bloomed with passion.
Their night of lovemaking lasted until dawn…
Early morning.
The first rays of sunlight filtered into the bedroom.
Even through the curtains, Chesca found it piercing. She instinctively burrowed deeper into the pillow, but with the slightest movement, her entire body ached in protest.

“Awake?”
Fabian’s voice came from beside her, and she found herself pulled into his warm embrace.
Through the thin layer of his robe, Chesca’s cheek pressed against his chest, breathing in his fresh, appealing scent.
At the peak of his youth, his heartbeat strong and steady.
For a long while, Chesca didn’t know what to say.

After four years of marriage, their intimacy should feel perfectly normal, so she feigned nonchalance, giving a soft “mm–hmm” as she attempted to get up.
But Fabian held her captive. Looking down at his wife, his voice carried a slight huskiness.
“How was it last night?”
“It was fine,” Chesca replied casually.
In truth, Fabian had taken her four times through the night, and she had genuinely enjoyed it. But she couldn’t possibly admit that so bluntly–she still had her pride as a woman.
Despite Chesca’s cool attitude, Fabian didn’t seem to mind. His nose brushed against hers as
he chuckled. “I felt great,”
Their noses lingered, their breaths mingling, threatening to ignite passion once more.
Chesca had never seen Fabian so reckless before. He’d always been traditional in bed, nothing like last night’s unrestrained desire, as if he’d become a completely different
person…
Now, Fabian gently traced his hand over Chesca’s abdomen, lost in thought.
Chesca guessed he was thinking about a child again.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t give him children.
Her mood instantly darkened. Throwing back the covers, she got out of bed. A moment later, her soft voice drifted from the bathroom. “I’m not in my fertile period right now. I

won’t get pregnant.”
Fabian remained in bed, his gaze intense. Then got up and walked into the bathroom where Chesca was freshening up.
He wrapped his arms around her slender waist from behind, resting his chin on her
shoulder, his voice a low rasp. “Let’s wait a couple of years. We can try for kids after I turn thirty. Didn’t you always want to build something of your own first?”
Chesca looked up, studying his handsome face in the mirror as if seeing a stranger.
After a long moment, she smiled faintly. “What game are you playing now, Fabian?”
The words pierced his heart.
Instead of answering, he simply lifted her into his arms and carried her to the
floor–to–ceiling windows, kissing her repeatedly in the morning light…
The white curtains swayed gently in the breeze.
Her body, soft as silk against his.
By late morning, the couple had finally risen. Chesca needed to visit her grandmother.
Today, Dr. Cotter would finalize the surgery plan.
After last night’s passion, Fabian was exceptionally gentle and attentive. At the dining table, he placed a piece of cheese on Chesca’s plate, his dark eyes intense. “The dish turned out
perfectly. Try some.”
Chesca felt her interest waning, but Fabian added, “I’ll drive you to the hospital.”
“The driver can take me. It’s out of your way,” she replied.
“I have some business at the hospital anyway. It’s on my route.‘

Chesca didn’t refuse again. She ate quietly, head down, while Fabian continued to watch
her intently until she couldn’t take it anymore. “Last night doesn’t change anything, Fabian. Don’t use those tricks that work on young girls–they won’t work on me.”
At her words, he let out a soft laugh.
After breakfast, they went to the hospital together. Chesca headed to her grandmother’s
room while Fabian went elsewhere.
He entered an office building and pushed open the door to the director’s office on the fourth floor. The man inside immediately stood up, greeting him warmly. “Fabian! Come in,
have a seat.”
Fabian smiled faintly and settled onto the sofa. The man offered him a cigarette.
Fabian waved it away.
Dr. Lnne paused, then shook his head with a smile. “It’s better to smoke less, I know. I’ve tried to quit so many times but never manage it. My wife lectures me daily, but what can I
do? The job demands it.”
Since Fabian declined, Dr. Lnne naturally put his cigarette away.
He sat down and accepted the yellowed medical report Fabian handed him–the one Chesca
had left behind.
“Take a look at this,” Fabian’s voice was low.
Dr. Lnne put on his glasses and examined it carefully, unwilling to miss any detail. After about two or three minutes, he set the paper down and looked at Fabian…
He was stunned! This document was explosive!
For a long time, Dr. Lin was speechless, trying to absorb the gravity of the situation.
Fabian pulled a check from his pocket and placed it on the polished coffee table-$20
million.
