Chapter 16
After Chesca left, Fabian headed somewhere else.
The rooftop of Fullerton Tower.
The night wind whipped fiercely, billowing the black coats of the two men like night hawks spreading their wings for the hunt, their imposing presences evenly matched.
Fabian lit a cigarette against the wind, drawing deeply on it. His lean face hollowed with the effort, making his features appear even more chiseled and intense.
After smoking half the cigarette, Fabian turned to Zeno, his voice cold and severe.
“Cancel our partnership.”
“Also, Chesca’s and my divorce case won’t be necessary for now. If needed in the future,
someone else will handle it…”
Zeno frowned. “Why?”
Fabian tossed the remaining cigarette to the ground, extinguishing it with his calfskin shoe. His voice grew even icier. “You’re asking me why?”
The next second, Fabian’s fist connected with Zeno’s jaw.
Zeno took the hit, clean and hard.
Fabian stood his ground, his gaze cold as ice. “Because Chesca is my wife. Did you forget
that, Zeno?”
“Your wife?”
Zeno wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.
Chapter 16
That small amount of blood meant nothing to him. Looking at the crimson stain, he
laughed.
before? Veronica nearly pushed her to a breakdown, and if Chesca ever finds out the truth,
do you honestly think she’d still stay with you?”
“Dream on.”
“Fabian, not everything can be fixed with money.”
After years of collaboration, Fabian and Zeno’s relationship nearly shattered now.
Fabian pulled out another cigarette, lighting it with elegant precision as he laughed coldly. “Zeno, we’re not so different, you and 1. And don’t lie to yourself–you know damn well, sometimes money is everything.”
His eyes locked with Zeno’s. “I will not divorce Chesca. Never.”
Chesca didn’t contact Fabian again.
Even between spouses, when discussing the division of assets, there’s always a game of strategy. Chesca wasn’t the type to get impatient
She heard from Anne that Veronica was pulling strings, trying to attend Mr. Richmond’s
party.
Anne worried Veronica might secure her position.
Chesca smiled faintly. “Veronica doesn’t have that kind of ability! She can’t handle a massive project like Yolo Export. She’ll suffer and doubt herself, just like I fell into serious self–doubt early in my marriage.”
But before she could even think of resolving things with Fabian, something more urgent
came up.

Chapter 16
Her grandmother’s medical report came back.
A brain tumor. Located in a very risky area.
If left untreated, it could compress the nerves and lead to partial paralysis.
Chesca called in every favor she had, but no one dared take the case. The location was too dangerous, and the patient’s age made the operation even riskier.
Desperate, Chesca put everything else aside–including Fabian.
Mrs. Richmond, upon learning of this, made a special trip to the hospital–first to visit the elderly woman, and second to bring Chesca some useful information.
After seeing her grandmother, Chesca took Mrs. Richmond to the café downstairs.
In the bright café, the two women sat face to face.
Mrs. Richmond reached out and gently squeezed Chesca’s hand, voice full of care.
“Sweetheart, don’t stress too much. Modern medicine is very advanced–almost anything can be cured. After I heard about this yesterday, I made some inquiries and actually heard something useful from my husband.”
“He said there’s a top surgeon in New York. A real legend in neurosurgery. His name’s Luke
Cotter. But he doesn’t take cases easily.”
“Mr. Richmond doesn’t have enough influence to approach him.”
“But the Cotters and the Elkedonia family go way back. If someone from Fabian’s side of the family asked… I’m pretty sure he’d say yes.”
Regarding Chesca’s divorce plans,
Mrs. Richmond had heard rumors, so after sharing her information, she took a sip of coffee
to mask any awkwardness.
Chapter 15
Chesca was deeply grateful to Mrs. Richmond.
And just as she was wavering, a call came from the Elkedonia family estate. Old Mr.
Elkedonia wanted to see her.
Jubal made the call himself. The family was known for its strict etiquette, and even though he was technically her father–in–law, Jubal still spoke to her with polite formality.
“Whatever is happening between you and Fabian,” Jubal said, “please do the old this favor. He’s always been especially fond of you.”
Chesca agreed.
Early winter had arrived.
The gardens at Elkedonia Manor remained captivating through all four seasons.
After parking her car, Chesca spotted jubal waiting for her. He had come personally to escort her to the patriarch–a sign of the importance of this visit.
Along the way, Jubal made casual conversation but carefully avoided mentioning Fabian.
Chesca did the same.
As they approached the study, Jubal’s secretary came over and whispered something to him. While they spoke, Chesca studied the secretary’s features.
When the woman left, Chesca commented to Jubal. “Your secretary looks familiar.”
Jubal’s expression showed unexpected hesitation.
After a pause, he pushed the door open and said,
“The Master’s waiting for you.”
Chesca didn’t press the matter and walked inside.

Chapter 16
The antique study was filled with the fragrance of coffee. The old Master was enjoying his cooffee, gently rocking in his chair with no servants in attendance.
Hearing footsteps, he chuckled. “Chesca, is that you? Come join me for cooffee.”
She walked over and greeted him politely, her demeanor respectful but cautious.
The old man smiled. “Fabian isn’t here! I’ve sent everyone else away–today it’s just us having a chat.”
Chesca smiled softly and leaned forward to pour cooffee for the elderly gentleman.
Among the younger generation of the Elkedonia family, Mr. Elkedonia valued Chesca most after Fabian–even more than his eldest grandson Zebulon.
Of course, that special treatment made her the target of envy, but he was well aware of that.
After a sip of cooffee, he suddenly brought up Zebulon and Eloise. “You and Fabian have been married for four years now. It’s about time Zebulon settled down too.”
Chesca was startled.
She understood perfectly–the Master didn’t approve of Eloise. If he had, Zebulon would’ve married her by now. This was clearly that he was clearing the path for Zebulon’s eventual
strategic marriage.
Though shocked internally, Chesca maintained a flawless exterior, even managing a smile. “Zebulon is definitely at that age.”
The old gave her a shrewd look.
This girl never revealed her thoughts–a perfect match for Fabian.
Changing the subject, the old man inquired about Chesca’s grandmother’s condition.
Chesca explained briefly.
The old man frowned. “That’s serious. Why didn’t you have Fabian talk to me about it? I

know you think he doesn’t love you–but trust me, if he didn’t care, your marriage wouldn’t have lasted this long. It would have fallen apart long ago.”
Chesca lowered her eyes. “I know… but in the Elkedonia family, love’s never been a topic worth bringing up.
The old man became instantly furious. “Did that bastard Fabian feed you this bullshit? If love doesn’t matter, then how the hell did his parents manage to have him in the first place? What were they, mating animals?”
Chesca couldn’t help thinking about Jubal’s secretary, whose striking beauty was certainly no coincidence.
Of course, she kept these thoughts to herself.
After talking for quite some time, the old seemed tired. “Anyway, I’ll arrange everything for your grandmother. Try to work things out with Fabian. Once bonded, always connected.”
Chesca nodded and backed out, carefully closing the door behind her.
She turned to leave.
And suddenly ran right into a firm, warm chest.
Startled, she instinctively tried to step back, but the man wrapped an arm around her, pressing her face against his shoulder.
His voice was low and raspy.
“So? How’d the talk go? Have you/made up your mind yet?”
