Chapter 7
The more he acted like he did not love me, the more insignificant I became.
He used this tactic for seven years.
A gleam of sharpness flashed across Henry’s eyes as the green light flashed, and he drove away from the intersection.
Back at the company, just as Henry was about to lie down, his phone lit up.
This time, it was a text message: [Be happy.]
Sender: Serena Clarke.
Bang!
Henry kicked the coffee table next to him with a gloomy expression.
[Serena, what do you mean by this?!]
[Are you crazy?!]
[Who gave you the guts to say something like this?!]
No one replied.
Henry stood up, quickly heading toward the parking lot, dialing my number as he walked.
“Beep… The number you have dialed is unavailable.”
“Damn it!”
He cursed under his breath, yanking open the car door.
“Serena, pick up the damn phone!”
Still no reply.
The wind was strong at night, but it could not blow away the fear in Henry’s heart.
It had been half an hour, and I still had not responded.
This was the first time in seven years of marriage.
No matter how late it was before, I would get up immediately and rush to his side whenever he called.
Even if it meant pulling him out of another woman’s arms.

Chapter 7
Henry tightened his lips as he thought about what happened tonight.
Had he gone too far with me?
His breathing calmed a bit, and an involuntary smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth.
It looked like Serena was really jealous this time.
Fine. This time, he would just bow his head and appease me.
However, he still needed to teach me a lesson so I would not get too big for my britches in the future.
As Henry looked at the villa getting closer, he suppressed his emotions and returned to his usual cold demeanor.
He walked into the yard and saw the dark villa, snorting in mockery.
At least it looked a little convincing this time.
He pushed open the door, and his cold, magnificent voice echoed inside.
“Serena, I’m back.”
No reply.
Henry’s face darkened, but he suppressed his growing unease.
“Tsk, stop pretending. Serena?”
“If you don’t come down now, I’m taking everything back!”
“Serena!”
Unable to hold it in any longer, Henry dashed up the stairs in three steps and opened the bedroom door.
“Sere-”
There was no one on the bed.
“Damn it!”
He turned and headed for Lyle’s room, pushing the door open.
“Serena, my patience is-”
There was no one.
There was only an unfinished Lego set sitting on Lyle’s room floor.
A sign of the owner’s indifferent departure.

Staggering to the Legos, Henry recognized the set.
It was the set he had bought for his son.
It was given nine days after his sixth birthday.

Henry had deliberately stayed out with friends, partying at a bar until the early hours. He had done this before on Lyle’s previous
birthdays.
Lyle and I waited for him hour after hour, calling him again and again.
We waited until the birthday cake melted and the chimes of midnight sounded.
Only then did he come home, reeking of alcohol and drunk.
That night, I watched my son’s bloodshot eyes, and for the first time, I yelled at him.
What did Henry do?
He looked at me with mockery and said, “Serena, who do you think you are?
“If you hadn’t schemed your way into my bed all those years ago, do you think you could have kept this child and become my
wife?
“Serena, you should be content.”
He watched as I choked on his words again, doubting myself. He must have felt victorious inside.
On the ninth day after our son’s birthday, he finally brought out the gift he had prepared.
