Chapter 12
Henry burst into laughter. His arms wrapped tightly around me in an eager embrace. His voice trembled with relief.
“Serena, I swear I’ll treat you well. I promise.”
I forced myself to stay still, suppressing the overwhelming urge to gag.
‘Henry, you need to remember that you were the one who pushed things this far.
‘Don’t blame me for what happens next.‘

After returning to the country, Henry truly seemed like a changed man.
He cut off all contact with Evelyn and went from being cold and distant to overwhelmingly affectionate toward me and Lyle.
He was almost too affectionate, indulging our every whim without hesitation.
However, my son and I remained indifferent, responding to him the way he had once treated us.
When we left, my son had cried so hard he nearly passed out.
Especially at the boarding gate. He even bit Henry’s wrist in a desperate attempt to make him release me.
It broke my heart.
However, there was no way to explain things to him. Not yet.
Only after we arrived did I finally get a chance to reassure him. I told him to trust me and give me time. I said I would take care of
everything.
Henry, of course, had no idea what was really on my mind.
He thought he had me cornered.
His arrogance only grew, fueled by the fear I had once seen in his eyes when I first brought up divorce.
That fear made him reckless and overly generous.
I took advantage of it. I had him reinstate my position at the company, using my time there to quietly gather client information
and resources.
At the same time, I spent a fortune hiring a private investigator to keep a close eye on Evelyn.
Henry had been the best stepping stone she could ever hope for. There was no way she would just let him go.
I was right.

Chapter 12
Less than two weeks later, she lost her patience.
She did not dare lash out at Henry, so she directed all her hatred toward me.
She thought she could take my place as long as my son and I were out of the picture.
When I received intel that Evelyn had hired someone to orchestrate a car accident, I knew this was my chance.
First, I made an excuse about my car needing maintenance, convincing Henry to drive it instead.
Then, I pretended I had to work late, asking him to pick up our son from school.
In reality, I had already taken care of everything. Our son had the day off and was safely at an art class.
The news broke at exactly four o’clock in the afternoon.
It was a collision between a sedan and a van.
Henry’s livelihood was uncertain.
When the hospital called, I calmly opened my drawer, pulled out the divorce papers I had long prepared, and smiled.
At first, I only wanted fifty million and to walk away.
However, Henry just had to push his luck.
The doctors‘ diagnosis was grim. Henry’s legs were beyond saving. He would be disabled for life.
While he was recovering, I publicly claimed my title as Mrs. Parker and temporarily took over his role at the company.
As for Henry, he could not accept his new reality. His temper became unbearable and even violent. He was always shouting,
breaking things, and lashing out at everyone.
The doctors and nurses could not stand him.
Out of consideration for their hard work, I had him transferred to a rehabilitation facility after a month.
More than half the patients there had psychiatric conditions.
It suited him perfectly.
Six months later, I had fully taken over the company.
Henry had completely lost his mind.
We still never got divorced.
After all, that was what he had always wanted.
I simply inherited everything under my legal rights as his wife. Of course, I used his wealth to surround myself with a new,
younger crowd.
