Chapter 4
My entire body was battered and bruised as I lay on the cold floor of the dungeon. No matter how I tried, I couldn’t
understand it. In this life, I had done nothing. So why did Alaric still refuse to let me go?
The next morning, I was yanked off the ground by force. Alaric stood before me, his expression frighteningly cold.
The moment I looked at him, I froze.
In just two days, the curse had spread across his entire aura. The closer he stayed to Lyanna, the more toxic his lifeline
became–and the closer he was to death.
He noticed my stare and frowned. “What are you looking at? Don’t tell me you’re about to start that nonsense again-
about being my fated match?”
I shook my head. “There’s nothing between us, Your Highness.”
He scoffed. “You think saying that means I’ll spare you?”
His murderous glare made my heart pound. “What do you want from me?”
Suddenly, Alaric lunged and grabbed my throat, his fingers tightening.
“In three days, I’ll marry Lyanna. I won’t give you another chance to hurt her.”
I struggled to breathe, my vision blurring. Gasping, I managed to choke out, “I… didn’t…”
He hurled me to the ground and wiped his hands with disdain. “Aren’t you the famous Golden Thread? The one who can
see everyone’s fated match?”
“Then let me see how you’ll keep pretending–after I rip your eyes out.”
Terror drained the blood from my face. “No… don’t. I swear, I never lied. I never meant to hurt Lyanna…”
He crouched down, locking his eyes onto mine. “Not a word you say can be trusted.”
He signaled his guards.
They rushed in, pinning me to the ground.
When one of them approached with a knife, I panicked and thrashed. “No! Alaric, you can’t do this!”
But Alaric simply watched, his voice cold. “Do it.”
The next second, the blade plunged into my left eye..
The pain was blinding. I screamed and flailed, breaking free from their grip and curling into a ball on the floor. Blood and tears streamed down my face.
Alaric watched in silence, expressionless. “You brought this on yourself, Elira.”
Drenched in sweat, I shouted through the agony, “Alaric, you’ll regret this!”

“You will regret this–hahaha!”
Infuriated by my laughter, Alaric snatched the blade and stabbed it into my right eye..
Pain distorted my face. Everything went black as I passed out.
When I awoke, all I saw was darkness.
My eye sockets felt as though they were on fire, the agony enough to make me tremble uncontrollably.
For the next two days, I drifted in and out of consciousness, pain my only companion.
On the third day, I overheard the guards talking.
Today was Alaric and Lyanna’s wedding.
I forced myself to sit up.
By my estimation, the time had come.
Sure enough, that night, Alaric burst into the cell–covered in blood.
“Elira, you wretched woman! What did you do to me?“.
