Chapter 8 The Brother I Loved Is Pure Evil

Maggie felt a flicker of panic earlier, but after hearing her daughter’s explanation, she forced herself to calm down. Her expression hardened as she gritted her teeth and snapped, “The next time he comes back, I don’t want any of you speaking to him! If I don’t straighten him out this time, I’m not worthy of my own name!”
She then turned to David, her frustration mounting. “David, this son of yours is beyond saving! If we don’t discipline him now, he’s going to be a complete failure!”
Upon hearing this, David’s face darkened, and his brow furrowed in displeasure.
“Mom! I think Joshua was just angry at that moment. I’m sure he’ll come back tomorrow!” Frankie chimed in, his voice sweet and persuasive, though there was a glint of satisfaction in his eyes now that Joshua had left. “Maybe he resents me. He probably thinks I’ve taken things from him. Otherwise, why would he accuse me of burning your dress?”
Maggie’s mood shifted immediately, softening as she looked at Frankie’s innocent expression. She pulled him into an embrace and smiled warmly. “You’re such a good boy. Not like some people–no matter how much you hit or scold them, they never listen. When your brother comes back tomorrow, don’t go easy on him! We’ve been more than kind to him, and now he’s talking about cutting ties with us? Let him see how that goes!”
“Yes, Mom!” he replied eagerly, a hint of triumph hidden behind his obedient smile.
But David felt that something was off. His eyes fell on the paper of severing ties sitting on the table with smudged blood stains, and he felt slightly disappointed.
On the floor in the living room, a pool of blood remained from Joshua’s earlier injury.
Upon seeing this, Katherine came over with a mop to wipe it off.
As she cleaned, she cast a glance at the family gathered in the room and sighed heavily in her heart. She had witnessed Joshua’s life in this house firsthand, and she knew better than anyone what it had been like for him.
To an outsider, it might have seemed as though Joshua lived in luxury. But in reality, his existence here was more akin to a nightmare. His parents were cold, his sisters hated him, and no matter how hard he tried to win their affection, all his efforts had been in vain.
This time, when Mr. Joshua walked out of the door, I’m afraid it was not a spur–of–the–moment decision, but rather, he had made up his mind. I’m afraid he’ll never set foot in this mansion!
David heard Katherine sigh and furrowed his brow.
“That ungrateful son of mine” he muttered frustration thick in his voice “He’s hurt and

won’t even bother getting his wound treated! Mrs. Locker, go find Leonard and have him follow Joshua. See where he’s staying and find out if he needs to go to the hospital.”
Before Katherine could move, Maggie cut in, her anger flaring. “Why are you still worrying about him? He’s only trying to provoke us, looking for attention and favors! This time, if I don’t straighten him out, I’m not worthy of being a Fraser anymore!” Her voice trembled with fury as she said through gritted teeth.
“Mom, don’t get upset. It’s not good for your health.” Upon seeing this scene, Frankie interjected as he hurried over to calm her down.
Maggie’s expression softened when she looked at him. “Don’t worry, sweetheart, I’m not angry,” she said, though her eyes still gleamed with unresolved frustration. She turned back to David, her tone sharp again. “And you–don’t you dare get involved. Let him do what he wants. When he comes back tomorrow, I’ll handle him myself!”
Upon seeing her determination, David reluctantly nodded and didn’t bother to dwell further on the issue. In his eyes, Joshua was still too dependent on the Fraser Family to truly sever ties.
I can’t forget how desperate Joshua was when we first brought him into the family. Back then, he literally did everything to gain our approval. Our daughters grew tired of him quickly as he was always delivering meals to one or preparing snacks for another. They found him disgusting and thought he had hidden motives, so they refused to touch the meals he prepared.
And
now, he wants to walk away as if it were that easy? It doesn’t make sense.
Meanwhile, Joshua finally settled into his small, rented room as he dragged his luggage inside. He went out to buy a quilt and a mat before returning home to spread them out on the bed. As he did so, he felt incredibly great.
Next, according to the plan, he would first have to work on strengthening his body. After that, it was time to hit the books and start tackling practice problems.
The college entrance exams were just two months away, and it was almost approaching. Recently, the pressure to study had become intense.
Although Joshua didn’t worry too much about his grades, he had worked tirelessly over the years to secure his future and couldn’t shake the fear that something unexpected might derail his plans. He knew he still had to push himself harder, just to be sure.
Physically, however, he was in a dire state. After years of living in the Fraser Residence, he had become severely malnourished. His once–strong body was now little more than skin and bones, and now that he was out of that environment, he had to focus on rebuilding his

strength. Without proper nourishment, he wouldn’t stand a chance against the challenges that lay ahead.
When he died of a sudden heart attack, it hadn’t been a natural one. His “dear brother,” Frankie, had secretly played a part in his demise, an action so subtle, so insidious, that it had gone unnoticed. Yet, it was this very act that directly led to Joshua’s death.
Afterward, he lived as a spirit in Kepong for twenty long years. In that time, he had seen countless things and watched the rise and fall of his family.
There was no doubt that his “dear brother” Frankie was an incredibly dangerous person. Joshua had never encountered anyone as manipulative, as patient, or as cold–hearted as him. Frankie had bided his time for a full ten years before making his move.
It wasn’t until 20 years after Joshua’s death that the truth came to light. Frankie’s involvement in his brother’s murder was finally exposed. Only then, twenty years too late, did Joshua witness the tears of regret from his parents in his spirit form!
At that moment, he felt an odd sense of satisfaction.
But it was just a pity that 20 years later, Frankie had long since claimed the Fraser Family’s fortune for himself. He had married, had children, and was living a life of comfort and prosperity. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have dared to expose the true cause of Joshua’s death to their parents.
