Chapter 70
“Joshua, this has nothing to do with Frankie. These deep–sea fish oil capsules were brought back from overseas! They help improve memory. He used to take them a lot at home, and now I’ve brought some for you,” Wendy said softly.
“For me?” Joshua let out a sharp laugh, his tone dripping with sarcasm. “What a joke! The biggest joke I’ve ever heard!”
“Joshua, I’m worried about you!” she said quickly, her voice trembling with concern. “You’re about to take the SATS, so you need to eat something!”
His eyes narrowed, his voice cutting like a blade. “Worried about me? Please! You’ve always been like this- waiting for me to fall into your trap, right? You want me to expose the truth about you, don’t you? Wendy, do you think I don’t dare to call out your hypocrisy and malice?”
Her face paled, a flicker of panic flashing across her expression. “Joshua, I’m just trying to help you stay healthy!”
“Help me? Don’t make me laugh!” He stepped back, his lips curling into a cold smirk. “You think I’d fall for that? Do you think you even have the right?”
He scoffed, his voice laced with mockery as his gaze fell on the container in her hands. “Deep–sea fish oil, huh? I remember this stuff. I tried it once, just a single taste. And you, my oh–so–perfect big sister, what did you do? You dumped the entire thing on me, right there and then. Splashed it all over me as if I deserved nothing better.”
Wendy froze, her face turning ghostly pale as the memory came rushing back.
“Don’t act all kind and innocent now. I remember it all too well. That day, you didn’t hold back at all, did you?” His voice grew icy, his words laced with venom. “I’m just a poor kid, an orphan. I don’t have the right to eat something like this! I don’t know why you keep coming back here, but let me make one thing crystal clear. You’ll pay for everything you’ve done. Karma doesn’t let anyone off the hook.”
His eyes turned cold. “Trying to frame me? To set me up again? Forget it! Take your fake kindness, your crocodile tears, and spare me the act. It’s disgusting.”
With those words, he spun on his heel and walked away, leaving her standing there, rooted to the spot.
Her wide eyes brimmed with disbelief, her body trembling as though she had been struck. She hadn’t expected him to remember that incident.
Her breaths came short and uneven, her chest heaving as tears began to pool in her reddened eyes. She turned and returned to her car, looking dazed. She placed the lunchbox on the passenger seat, and her gaze was blank as she stared at the bustling crowds in the distance. A deep silence enveloped her, and she sank into a spiral of self–doubt.
Tears welled up uncontrollably, spilling from her eyes and smearing her carefully applied makeup.
She sniffled, her vision blurred with tears. Reaching into her pocket, she fumbled for her phone and quickly unlocked it. After scrolling through her files, she soon found what she was looking for–a certain record that brought a lump to her throat.
Joshua had indeed consumed deep–sea fish oil once. It was just once!
At that time, Maggie had prepared the fish oil for Wendy. At the time, Wendy had been neck–deep in work, chasing a new project with relentless focus. Her schedule was packed, and even when she managed to come home, she was still glued to her tasks, exhausted and on edge.
Noticing how much weight her daughter had lost from the stress, Maggie had gone out of her way to ask someone to arrange for supplements and the deep–sea fish oil for Wendy to take. But Wendy had no time for

any of it, so she left the bottle in the fridge, untouched.
Joshua happened to come home from playing basketball, sweaty and parched. He opened the fridge, searching for something to quench his thirst. Then, his gaze landed on the bottle of deep–sea fish oil. Curious and desperate for relief, he took it out and drank a sip.
That was when Wendy happened to come downstairs.
She froze at the sight of him holding the bottle, and rage surged through her. In an instant, she stormed over, snatched the bottle from his hands, and furiously dumped the deep–sea fish oil over his head. Her anger boiled over as she unleashed a torrent of harsh words.
At the time, he had only recently returned home and had already caused a stir by showing up at her company uninvited, only to be thrown out by security. At the time, her disdain for him was at its peak.
She could still vividly recall after pouring the deep–sea fish oil on his head, there was shock, panic, and fear written across his face.
“W–Wendy, I… I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have drunk it!” he stammered nervously as he apologized to her, his voice trembling.
His face had gone deathly pale with fear.
At this moment, she felt nothing but an overwhelming chill.
It wasn’t just the kind of cold that made her shiver, for it cut straight to the bone, paralyzing her. She could barely breathe, as though an invisible force had wrapped around her chest, threatening to suffocate her.
The realization hit her like a sharp slap: she was no better than Shirley or Maddy. In fact, she was worse. Even worse than Maggie.
That day, she had said so many cruel words. They were words she couldn’t even fully recall now. But as she scrolled through Joshua’s posts, fragments of her harshness began to resurface.
She suddenly couldn’t bring herself to look at those things anymore. It felt as though her heart was being tightly gripped by an unseen hand, making it impossible for her to breathe.
As the SATS drew nearer, the atmosphere at home became tense. The entire family was on edge.
At Maggie’s command, Maddy, Judy, and Indy returned home to help tutor Frankie.
Even Cassidy, who was still in college, requested leave to come home. She helped Frankie by explaining various problems and sharing key tips for the SATS.
