Chapter 63
Joshua smiled as he looked at the group. “As long as we have enough users paying their deposits, this project will grow like a snowball–bigger and bigger–until we cover all of Kepong!”
Edith frowned. “Joshua, we’ll need to return the deposits eventually, right?”
“Of course! But once we achieve scale, refund requests won’t be that frequent. As long as people keep using our bikes, their deposits stay with us. No deposit means no bike access. If they don’t cancel the service, there’s no reason for them to ask for a refund.”
He continued confidently, “Once we’ve scaled up and attracted angel investors, managing deposits won’t be an issue anymore. By then, each of us will have a solid amount of money in hand!”
Hearing Joshua’s explanation, Tom, Gwen, and Edith couldn’t help but feel excited.
They didn’t entirely understand the concept of bike–sharing, but that didn’t matter as long as Joshua was in control.
After all, most of the funding would come from Joshua, and their contributions would be minimal. All they had to do was follow his lead to help launch and expand the project quickly.
Of course, before rolling out the bike–sharing program citywide, they needed to run pilot programs and conduct market research.
To minimize losses, they decided to focus on densely populated areas and places with high concentrations of well–educated residents.
Joshua quickly identified a promising target: areas near universities and tech companies. They could place bikes near university entrances.
He estimated they could start with about 5,000 bikes in the first phase.
If the response was positive and deposits flowed in, they could expand further. College students, after all, were more likely to embrace new ideas.
With the plan taking shape, Joshua and the team worked together to narrow down six or seven ideal zones for the pilot program.
The next step was to find a bike supplier and arrange for manufacturing.
This needed to be finalized first to ensure immediate access to supplies once the funds were in place.
Lastly, they needed to register a company and hire two programmers to develop an app, which was an essential component for launching the business.
Rome wasn’t built in a day. They had to tackle these tasks one step at a time.
While working closely with his team on these preparations, Joshua kept a close eye on Bitcoin prices.
As he had anticipated, Bitcoin’s price plummeted again within three days, wiping out massive amounts of capital and leaving countless investors devastated.
The market was flooded with negative sentiment about Bitcoin, with many people starting to dismiss it as worthless.
In this climate of distrust, Bitcoin’s value continued to drop.
Joshua seized the opportunity, investing 80,000 and waiting for the rebound.
Three days later, just as he predicted, Bitcoin’s price surged higher than before.
Chapter 63
Recognizing the trend, Joshua sold all his holdings, pocketing nearly 60,000 in profit and boosting his total funds to 140,000.
Over the next month, he repeated this strategy–buying low and selling high.
His wealth grew rapidly, climbing from 140,000 to 180,000, then to 230,000, 350,000, 470,000, 620,000, 810,000, and finally to 1.3 million.
Crossing the million–dollar mark filled Joshua with newfound confidence. He pressed on, determined to grow his fortune further.
Meanwhile, perhaps because the SATS were approaching, the Frasers had barely contacted Joshua all month.
Only Wendy had visited him twice; neither Maggie nor David had made any effort to show up.
Joshua already knew that Maggie and David had cut off his access to his bank card and funds. The thought of their actions only made him sneer.
One day after school, Joshua spotted Wendy waiting at the school gate.
She had driven over in an Audi.
Joshua didn’t know why she was there and didn’t care to find out. He turned to leave, but Wendy got out of the car and blocked his path.
She was holding a pot of something in her hands.
“Joshua?” Wendy called gently.
Joshua ignored her and tried to walk past, but Wendy quickly stepped in front of him. “Joshua, just wait a moment. I’ll leave after I say a few words.”
“I don’t understand why you’re here. Don’t come looking for me. Ms. Quinton has already explained everything to you,” Joshua replied coldly.
