Maggie snapped angrily, “If I don’t deal with him now, he’ll threaten me with a knife again! I have to teach him a lesson before he gets even worse!”
“But we can’t hand Joshua over to the police! If he’s found guilty, he could end up in prison!” Wendy protested urgently. “Mom, what Joshua did today was wrong, but this is going too far!”
Maggie shot back, “Did you even see what he did to us? That ungrateful brat pointed a knife at us! It was outrageous! How can I possibly let that slide?”
David interjected, “In any case, we can’t involve the police right now. This is a family matter, and we can’t just hand it over to them.”
“Then we need to get the footage first! I want proof of his theft. I want to see exactly what he’s capable of!” Maggie fumed.
David nodded in agreement and instructed Leonard to investigate.
Joshua’s behavior had truly crossed a line this time.
To David, Joshua threatening them with a knife was a direct challenge to his authority. He felt compelled to teach him a lesson; otherwise, it would eat away at him.
He wanted to see how someone who had resorted to stealing at home could claim to be independent or capable of fending for himself.
Wendy, watching their heated reactions, felt a deep sense of sorrow.
Meanwhile, Leonard got to work, heading to the monitoring room to review the security footage.
Given the mansion’s size, numerous security cameras had been installed both inside and outside the rooms for safety purposes. The surveillance system was state–of–the–art and required explicit authorization from both David and Maggie to access the recordings. With their approval, Leonard quickly located the relevant footage.
After reviewing it, he hesitated before reporting, “Mr. and Mrs. Fraser, we didn’t find any evidence of Joshua stealing valuables. What we did find was footage of him sneaking downstairs late at night to grab snacks.”
“What? No footage? How is that possible?” Maggie barked, her eyes boring into Leonard.
“Mr. and Mrs. Fraser, indoor surveillance is limited to protect privacy, but there are more cameras outside. Mr. Joshua did enter your room a few times, but he didn’t take anything valuable–just some clothing,” Leonard explained. “However, it might be worth double–checking to see if anything valuable is missing.”
Hearing this, Maggie’s anger flared instantly. “I knew he was stealing! David, let’s go check our room!”
David, eager to uncover what Joshua might have taken to fuel his arrogance, nodded and followed Maggie to inspect their belongings.
As a family in the jewelry business, their mansion housed a significant collection of jewelry. Maggie and David’s room, in particular, contained numerous valuable pieces stored in cabinets.
After combing through their belongings, Maggie and David were both perplexed. “Nothing’s missing? I don’t believe it. Bring me the inventory list. I’ll check everything against it!”
“Yes, Mrs. Fraser!”
After receiving the list, they immediately cross–referenced it with their possessions. When the search confirmed that none of the jewelry or necklaces were missing, Maggie clenched her teeth in frustration.

“Then who did he steal from?”
Suddenly, an idea struck her, and she looked up at Wendy. “Wendy, contact Shirley, Maddy, Judy, Indy, and Cassidy! Ask them if they’re missing anything. I want to know exactly what Joshua has taken from this family!”
Hearing this, Wendy’s sorrow deepened. With a quiet sniffle, she said, “Maddy mentioned losing a ring worth 4,500, but Judy and the others never mentioned anything.”
“What about you?” Maggie asked, narrowing her eyes at Wendy.
Wendy shook her head. “I haven’t lost anything either. Mom, there’s no proof that Maddy’s missing ring was taken by Joshua. She might have accidentally lost it somewhere else.”
“D*mn it!”
“Also, the police looked into Joshua yesterday. It seems he took advantage of the storm and made quite a bit of money,” Wendy hesitated before continuing.
“How did he make money?” Maggie’s frustration mounted in the absence of evidence.
“He’s been reselling live shrimp and crabs at the market. Apparently, he bought them before the storm and sold them afterward when prices skyrocketed, making nearly double the profit! I estimate he earned thousands of dollars from that. A few days ago, he and his friends also stockpiled bananas and longans. According to the police, the price of those fruits doubled, and he made another few thousand dollars from the price difference.”
“What?”
This revelation surprised both Maggie and David.
To them, Joshua had always been a good–for–nothing. How could someone like him make such a hefty sum of money? Forget comparing him to Wendy or Shirley–even their youngest, Frankie, seemed more capable than him.
