Chapter 29 Unspoken Admiration

After going back to her room, Wendy paused to gather her thoughts before reaching for the phone and preparing to switch it on.
However, her hand abruptly stopped. She hesitated, unsure if she wanted to open it.
She was afraid of what she might discover.
This phone should have a ton of records on it if her gut felt right.
After a brief moment of silence, Wendy wiped away her tears, took a deep breath, and finally turned on the phone to check its contents.
Numerous pictures were there, most of her with her parents, the Fraser Residence, and fancy cars. In addition, there were some family portraits and pictures of the family company.
It appeared that Maddy had taken the phone and hadn’t even opened it. Everything remained untouched.
Wendy scrolled through the gallery and eventually opened the Snapchat messages. She decided to import all the records onto her laptop and start reading them from the beginning.
As the eldest sister, she felt a sense of responsibility. She wanted to understand Joshua as much as possible, to know everything about him, and to learn why he was so determined to leave the Frasers.
Only after reading through these records could she fully comprehend what Joshua had experienced over the past four years.
The phone held a lot of information, including photos, documents, study materials, and a lot of chat logs.
As a well–educated person, Wendy knew that reading someone else’s private messages was highly inappropriate. But in this situation, she didn’t care anymore.
She just wanted to understand.
She quickly flipped through a few pages of data without finding anything useful. But then, she saw something that made her body tremble.
“Tom, this is my eldest sister, Wendy. Isn’t she beautiful?”
It was accompanied by a photo of her at the company.
That photo had been displayed on the award wall in the family living room alongside pictures of Shirley, Maddy, and the others.
But Joshua had taken a separate picture of Wendy and sent it to his friends.
Wendy continued reading.
‘I heard my eldest sister graduated from Northbright University, then studied abroad for a year at Bayside Institute of Technology. Do you know that university? I heard that this university is very famous. My eldest sister is a top student from both institutions.

‘She’s knowledgeable, refined, and incredibly accomplished. I only just found out about this. I asked Mrs. Locker, and she told me everything. Mrs. Locker is our housekeeper. She said my eldest sister has always been excellent, scoring high in all her exams. She’s one of the smartest people.
‘Look at this award. It was won by my eldest sister when she was in high school. She was first in literature and second in science.
Wendy held her breath as she checked the timestamp.
She realized this message was sent four years ago, when Joshua had just joined the Frasers and didn’t know much about them. It was probably the first time he’d learned about her achievements.
‘And Mrs. Locker also told me my eldest sister ranked in the top 100 on the SATs and scored the highest in math.
‘Gwen, did you know that? This is my eldest sister! She’s now managing the family business as the company’s CEO. Look at this photo. My eldest sister shook hands with Mr. Zuch. And this one is of her receiving the Outstanding Young Entrepreneur Award.
‘Mrs. Locker said there are countless people trying to court my eldest sister. The line of suitors stretches from Eastview all the way to Westview. All these awards were won by my eldest sister while she was in school.
‘Haha. Tom, Gwen, look at how many there are. She has won exemplary student awards, first place in math and geography, and recognition as one of the exemplary youths of our city. According to Mrs. Locker, my oldest sister has been gifted and intelligent since childhood.
‘Gwen, I’ve never met anyone as amazing as my eldest sister. If I were one–tenth, no, one percent as amazing as my eldest sister, that would be great!’
“Sob.”
At this point, Wendy clamped her hand over her mouth, trying not to cry out loud.
Tears uncontrollably filled her eyes, blurring her vision.
This…
How could this be?
This can’t be true.
Joshua had never said any of this to her or even asked her about these things either.
