Chapter 27 The Cold Distance
Wendy hurriedly pushed open the door to the hospital room.
To her surprise, Joshua was already awake and packing his belongings, preparing to leave.
“Joshua, are you awake?” Wendy exclaimed joyfully.
Joshua glanced at her but said nothing, continuing to gather his things.
Seeing his calm and indifferent demeanor, Wendy felt a sharp pain in her heart.

She vividly recalled how, in the past, Joshua’s eyes would light up whenever he saw her as if he were looking at a celebrity he adored, full of admiration.
Back then, he would act like a loyal puppy, always eager to be near her, bringing her food, carrying things for her, and desperately trying to please her.
Every time he saw her, he was filled with excitement and joy.
But now, his face was lifeless.
“Joshua, where are you going? The doctor said you need to rest and recover,” Wendy said anxiously.
Joshua finished packing, turned to her, and said, “Thank you for bringing me to the hospital. I just checked the bill. The total for the medication and diagnosis is 1500.”
He took out 1500 from his wallet, handed it to her, and said, “Here’s the medical fee. Take it. We have nothing to do with each other anymore, so there’s no need to find me. Goodbye.”
“Joshua!” Wendy was startled and quickly blocked him, not letting him leave. “Mom and Dad are waiting for you to come home. Where are you going?”
Joshua laughed bitterly. “Miss Fraser, what are you doing? Why do you keep stopping me? I don’t understand why you’re even here.”
“Come home with me first,” Wendy urged and tried to grab his hand.
“Forget it.” Joshua pushed her hand away and smiled. “Why should I go back with you? Let your bodyguards beat me up again? Or let your family punish me, lock me up, and starve me? Miss Fraser, be kind. Evil deeds will have consequences.”
Wendy froze, and her heart suddenly filled with shock.
“There’s a saying. Your retribution will come. It’s just a matter of time. When the time comes, you’ll face the consequences,” Joshua said, smiling coldly.
With that, he brushed past her and left the hospital room.
Wendy was stunned by his words, feeling a chill down her spine.
As she watched Joshua leave, she suddenly snapped out of it and hurried to catch up.

“Joshua, what are you saying? I’m your sister. Stop right there.”

Joshua glanced back at her and sneered. “Are you going to have your bodyguards beat me up again? Let me tell you, this is a hospital. We have nothing to do with each other anymore. If you or your people touch me again, I swear I’ll fight back.”
His smile vanished, and he stared at her with a fierce look.
Wendy felt like she had been plunged into an ice–cold abyss, her body trembling uncontrollably. She thought that he had become highly terrifying at that moment.
She was frozen in place. “Joshua. I’m just asking you to come home. I’m your sister. Mom and Dad are waiting for you.”
“Don’t pretend to be concerned. Do you think I don’t know what’s really going on? Stop pretending. Do you really think you can fool me again?” Joshua scoffed, his expression full of mockery.
“I’m not lying to you. I’m your sister. Why would I lie?” Wendy was taken aback.
“Oh? You’re not lying?” Joshua sneered and glanced at the female bodyguards behind her. “You’re right. You’re not lying. You’ve just been toying with me openly. If I go back now, you’ll record another video of me and post it in your Snapchat group for all your sisters to laugh at me, right? Wendy, evil deeds will be repaid. It’s not happening yet, but it will. You won’t escape the consequences forever.”
Wendy was horrified.
“Forget it. I don’t want to argue with you. Get lost!”
Joshua couldn’t be bothered to argue any further. He felt exhausted and frustrated. Then, he left the hospital and quickly headed home. He still had over 200 pounds of live shrimp and crabs to sell in the evening market. His goal was to sell 150 pounds by the end of the day.
Wendy stood there, frozen and trembling, her face pale as a sheet.
She had never imagined that Joshua would know about the Snapchat group between her and her sisters.
She also didn’t expect Joshua to be so heartless and direct.
Indeed, they had laughed at him and even mocked him in that group.
