My bedroom was exactly as it had been the last time he visited. Blankets were scattered on the floor as if I hadn’t been back for
days.
Then, on the table, he noticed a box of fever medicine.
His pupils shrank.
I had been sick that day, yet he thought I was faking it.
Unable to find me, Luca cried. “Dad, is Mom mad at me? Does she not want me anymore? It’s all my fault for making her jump
into the water that day to find my toy. I just wanted to play with her… Aunt Vivian said that Mom liked this game.”
“What did you say?” Owen’s hands trembled as he grasped Luca’s shoulders. “She fell into the water… because of you? Tell me
exactly what happened.”
As Luca explained everything, Owen staggered back a few steps. He asked, “How could this have happened?”

Chapter 4
After that day, I never returned.

Owen thought that I was at my workshop, so he immediately took Luca there–only to find it empty. His frustration mounted as
he paced around, desperate for a clue.
Then, Luca let out a sharp cry. Owen rushed over and froze.
Bloodstained clothes were piled on the table.
It was clear that I had been pricked by needles countless times. The blood had soaked through several layers.
“Why… Why is there so much blood? Shannon, where are you? Don’t scare me like this!”
But no matter how many times he called and how many messages he sent, there was no response. The ever–calm and composed
Owen now looked like a lost child.
Luca sobbed harder, clutching Owen’s sleeve. “Dad, I want Mom… I want Mom…”
Owen forced himself to stay calm and called his assistant, Tyler Murray.
Tyler didn’t take long to retrieve the security footage from the workshop. The footage showed me finishing the wedding dress,
utterly exhausted, then collapsing onto the table.
I had slept for only three hours before a young man entered the room.
The footage had no sound, so Owen had no idea what we were talking about. But in the final moments of the recording, the man
helped me to my feet and took me away.
Seeing this, Owen erupted in fury. “Find this man for me!”
“Got it.” Tyler shuddered. He hadn’t seen Owen like this in a long time.
Then, he hesitated before saying, “Mr. Gray, while pulling up the footage, we found something else. You might want to see it.”
He played the recordings from the past few days.
Since I started working on the wedding dress, I had barely slept. I pricked my fingers repeatedly, my eyesight failing, my hands
trembling.
At one point, after finishing an embroidered sleeve, I stood up and then collapsed, unconscious. I lay there, unmoving, for four
hours before waking up and dragging myself back to work.
The footage continued. It showed me finally completing the wedding dress. Then, it showed Vivian arriving, taking the dress, and
deliberately cutting it apart.
deliberately cutting it apart.
“How could this happen?” Owen was in unbearable pain as he recalled how I looked that day. “I actually didn’t believe Shannon…
I really thought she was just jealous of Vivian… I… I…”
He raised his hand and slapped himself hard. “I was wrong. Shannon, please come back. I can’t live without you.”

At that moment, his phone rang.
It was a message from Vivian. She wrote, “Owen, my depression is acting up. If you don’t come, I will kill myself.”
His eyes darkened, and a chilling coldness spread through his body.
Half an hour later, he arrived at her door.
