It’s been a week since I left the apartment. My heart yearned for Kaiden. It took everything in me not to run back into his arms. I needed to be sure I wanted him and it wasn’t just the bond pulling me back to him. I wonder if he noticed my belongings missing after the first three days of moving out.

I stayed at my maternal grandparents house now. It was nice, and comfortable, yet I didn’t get the homely feeling I had with Kaiden. I had finally figured out how to summon my mom. All I needed to do meditate about her and she would appear.

My phone rang, drawing me out of my thoughts. Ryker’s name popped up on the screen and I hesitated before picking up. He had spam my phone with messages each time I declined his calls. I’m led to believe that Kaiden was behind his persistent

call.

“Hello, Rory” He spoke on the line, letting out a sigh of relief.

“Hi” I responded awkwardly, wondering what to next to say to him. He obviously wanted to convince me to return back.

“Why the fuck have you being ignoring my calls?” He snapped suddenly, surprising me. Ryker was always soft spoken, and hardly cursed around me.

“And why are you yelling at me?” I shot back in response, keeping my tone neutral.

“I understand you’re mad at Kaiden, but you should know I’m always on your side.” He assured, pausing briefly before adding, “Come to the pack house” He instructed.

I chuckled before shaking my head. “That doesn’t sound like what someone whose on my side would say.” I commented mockingly, narrowing my eyes.

“Derek’s funeral is today.” He announced, ignoring my remarks before hanging up without another word.

Derek’s funeral? Did I hear wrong or was he messing around with me?

I swallowed nervously before dialing his line again. It rang couple of times and I was already starting to lose hope when he picked, more like a woman

“Is this Aurora?” The woman whom I recognized to be Ariel asked. I hadn’t heard nor seen her for ages, not like I care.

“Where’s Ryker?” I asked directly with a tight smile. She might have been in love with someone else now, but I can’t erase the foul memories of her.

“He’s busy with the funeral rites.” She said curtly and I nodded.

“He said it was Derek–I caught myself off, feeling the words stuck in my throat.

“Yes it is. Derek’s dead.” She confirmed with no hint of joke in her tone.

The color on my face drained off as I heard the line went dead. What exactly was happening? First, it was Layla, now it’s Derek? Did this still have something to do with Derek?

My questions wouldn’t get answered by sitting here right?

I hastily changed my outfit before rushing out of the house. The first thing I noticed was Kaiden’s car parked right at the front of the pack house. My heart skipped a beat in both excitement and nervousness. I was obviously going to bump into him and sure I’m not ready for to just yet.

unusually quiet. Were they already at the funeral ground? 

I didn’t know what possessed me, but I saw myself in Kaiden’s room. His unique smell covered my nose and for a split second, all I wanted to do was to be close to him. Maybe I should.

“Aurora.” I jumped in shock almost losing my balance. I hadn’t expected anyone in the room with me. I didn’t need to turn around to know who that voice belonged to

My eyes fixated on him and I couldn’t help, but notice the tired bags under his eyes. Had he even been sleeping? A pinch of guilt tugged on my heart when I noticed the bruise on his face. He was a werewolf, shouldn’t he had healed by now?

“You’re here, love.” He smiled at me, taking a step closer. I nodded quietly, turning away my face. I shouldn’t be worrying about him right now.

“You’re here for the funeral right?” He asked in a low tone, taking another step closer to me. He was playing safe which was unlike him–He was impulsive.

The smell of alcohol hit my nose when he stood close causing my eyes to flicker back to him. “Have you been drinking?“1 asked, my eyebrows knitting together.

He chuckled, raising the bottle up to my eye sight. “Don’t worry love, I won’t get drunk.” He whispered playfully. He did seem saber, but it didn’t make me worry less.-

He stared at me, raising his hand up to my face, “I’m not going to beg you to come home.” He whispered in a soft tone before pulling on a stoic face.

He withdrew his hand, and walked past me. “Come on. Let’s go.” He said, dragging me out of his room

“Where are we going?” I questioned.

“To the graveyard.” He announced before saying, “We have our own graveyard just as you humans do.” He explained, letting go off my hands.

“Walk faster.” He commanded, arching his neck slightly to stare at me with a teasing smile.

“My legs are short, remember?” I whined and he chuckled, shaking his head in amusement, but said nothing.

We were headed outside the buikling, towards the forest. I was about to complain about the distance when the pack members came to sight. There was really in funeral.

“Want to stay here or…” Kaiden trailed off when he noticed I wasn’t listening. We stood behind an oak tree a little farther from the funeral ground where you can get a clearer view of cemetery.

Ryker stood beside his parents with Ariel by his side while the other pack members surrounded them, more like the coffin. What was more confusing was the presence of the other collin

“It’s our tradition to bury mates together.” Kaiden explained catching my stare.

1 arched my neck towards hint in surprise, “Then is that Lay. I trailed off, feeling my eyes blur with tears. It finally made sense to me why Ryker wanted me here.

He wrapped his arms around me, rubbing my back, Tm sorry, love.” He whispered into my hair causing the tears I was trying to hold to roll down.
