“So we’ve decided to let you go.” Magnus announced after inviting us back into the hall.
“We’ll leaving now. Kaiden announced, pulling me out of the hall
30%.
I wanted to yank my hands out of his hold, but staring at some of the wounds on his body and the dried blood in his clothes made me hesitate. I knew 1 shouldn’t be feeling bad for him, but he ended up in this state because of me.
“Don’t we get a thank you for sparing your lives?” Peter chirped causing me to pause in my steps.
“Why should I thank you?” I asked in anger, turning around to face them. “Should I thank you for forcing me to take lives?”
Jonathan chuckled, “You weren’t this sharp tongued earlier.” He remarked before adding, “besides, your hand were already stained with blood before now, so why making a fuss over nothing?” He said with indifference,
1 clenched my fist in anger because I knew he was right. The moment I took Lily’s life, I wasn’t no longer innocent and I won’t be as long as I had this abilities with me.
“I hope we never see each other again because I don’t promise to be so merciful this time.” Magnus announced and I gave him a tight smile.
The feeling is mutual.” I remarked, turning on my heels. Kaiden held my waist tightly and I couldn’t tell if it was to show possessiveness over me or to support himself because he looked drained
How was he supposed to fight them in such a state if I had allowed him? Seems I will need to tend to his injuries before I putting a distance between us.
We were already half way out of the building when I caught sight of Layla waltzing in. I wasn’t imagining it after all. It was really Layla’s voice I heard before passing out.
She froze when she saw us both, but quickly recovered from the brief gree and approached us confidently.
“What are you doing here?” I asked directly when she reached us both.
“What do you think I’m doing here?” She asked back without any hint of remorse in her features, “I work for them, so I have every right to come here, don’t you think?” She added rhetorically.
“You work for them?” Kaiden repeated with a hollow laughter. “So you were the one who sold her out.” He said with a
sardonic look on his face.
“So what if I did?” Layla retorted with a sly smile. She looked different from the person I had come to know,
“Why?” My heart felt tight in betrayal. I thought she was my best friend, we were like sisters and she went ahead to betray my trist?
“Why you ask?” She said bitterly, her gaze sharpening as she glanced at Kaiden, “Why don’t you ask him?” She nodded to him
‘ not aware
My face scrunched in confusion as I stared at Kaiden. Was there some unspoken history between them I wasn’t
“Kaiden?” I demanded for some sort of explanation from him, but he didn’t respond to me.
“Kaiden, here.” She pointed at him with a disdain look, “is responsible for my father’s death” She added
“What?” I echoed in shock, staring at Kaiden to deny the allegation, but he didn’t.

“My dad died because of you.” She spat out bitterly, “I thought he was paying my dad’s hospital bills because he felt sorry for me,but I was mistaken.” Her eyebrows drew together.
“He used me as a bait. My dad died because those werewolves thought I was you.” She stated.
I shook my head in denial, turning my attention to Kaiden. “Did you really do that?” I hoped for him to say no,but he didn’t
“I was trying to protect you.” He defended with no remorse.
1 let out a shaky breath, yanking his arms away in anger. I thought I only had to handle him killing my mom but I was wrong. He also had a hand in Layla’s dad death too.
“When the North council asked for my help in uncovering your identity and possibly capturing you, I turned down their offer until they revealed the truth surrounding my father’s death.” She continued.
“I wanted revenge so I started working for them. I had no plans of capturing you that night, but when you showed up at my place. I realized what a perfect opportunity.” She said with a satisfied smile.
“Why fight me when I’m innocent?” I questioned cautiously.
“Because my dad died because of you!” She snapped angrily, her nose flaring up.
“You would have done same if you were in my shoes” She argued, trying to justify herself.
“So did you get the revenge you wanted?” I enquired with a straight face..
“No, I didn’t.” She shook her head in response, “Why didn’t you die?” She spat out with so much hatred.
1 felt my heart clench in sadness, “You wanted me dead?” I whispered with a gloomy face. “Is that how much you hate me?” I added with a sad smile. C
“Yes, Aurora. I hate you both so much. I’m an orphan now because of you.” She said with venom.
I nodded in understanding, brushing past her and Kaiden followed behind.
“Where do you think you’re going?” She yelled from behind me, pulling me back through my hair. I hissed in pain, my eyes rounded in shock as I spun around to see her with a knife close to my neck.
I shut my eyes, waiting for the pain, but it never came instead I felt the grip on my hair loosen. My eyes flew open fast enough to see Kaiden grabbing the knife from her.
“Kaiden, don’t!” I screamed in panic when he brought the blade down to her stomach and stabbed her. She gasped in shock, looking down at the wound before pairing her eyes at me.
I shrieked in horror seeing her slowly drop to the floor. I slowly crouched down, holding her in my arms as I felt tears blur my eyes. She smiled at me weakly, before her eyes slowly close.
“What have you done, Kaiden?” I screamed, shaking her body but she didn’t bulge.
