Aurora

My eyes flickered to the door as it flew open. I arched my eyebrows in

lusion sering Ryker standing by the doorframe, and not Kaiden as I expected. There was no doubt that he sent Ryker to get through me, but they were still all same to me.

“Hey, Rory” He said with a smile leaning on the doorframe.

I stared at him, unsure of what to say to him. Kaiden had spent the last two days explaining the kind of species they were and in all honesty, it only scared me more than I was. It made me realize just how little I knew about Kaiden, no I didn’t

know him at all.

Based on his explanation, everything finally made sense to me. Why people were always scared of him. Apparently he wasn’t a nice person I thought, I mean the signs were always there. But I was so blinded by love he showered me that I fail to acknowledge that there was something off about him.

“Are you going to ignore me too?” He arched a brow, stepping into the room.

I wasn’t intentionally ignoring him. I just couldn’t find my voice right now. I was trying to process everything Kaiden had told me about their kind.

He claimed they weren’t monsters and are not dangerous as I believed, but I had my reservations. After how my mom was brutally murdered by one of them, and the bits of what I saw that night, the way he killed those thugs. I didn’t believe his

“We’re worried about you.” He whispered, his weight sinking the bed slightly. “You haven’t said anything to anyone for the past two days”

What was more was I to say? My head hurts just from thinking about everything.

After my outburst that morning. I surrendered to the storm in my head, which was why I wasn’t talking to anyone. Kaiden made it clear to me that he had no plans of letting me go because we are destined together, something along the lines of being his mate.

I maybe overreacting right now considering how Kaiden has done everything possible to keep me safe, but it was equally his fault that I needed protection in the first place.

“Rory.” He tugged on my arms to force me to speak. I opened my mouth to respond but shut it back close.

Unlike how I felt after I discovered, I was calm now. I was scared of saying the wrong thing, I was scared of their true selves, yet I still craved Kaiden. Yes, I know it was crazy–I’m crazy but I couldn’t help it. I didn’t know if it had anything to do with being his mate.

“Have I hurt you before?” He quipped, obviously trying to prove a point. I shook my head, biting the inside of my mouth

“So you have nothing to be scared of, okay?” His voice was soft like he was speaking to a child. Maybe I was

“A monster is a little too extreme, Rory.” He sounded offended by the name I referred to them with.

“And Derek?” I asked, trying to ease my curiosity. Though Kaiden told me that everyone in his family home–pack house in his words were werewolves, but I wanted further confirmation.

“Also a werewolf.” He verified.

“Does Layla know?” I couldn’t help but ask. If Kaiden lied to me about it then there was no doubt Derek did same.

“No she doesn’t” He confessed, confirming my suspicion.

I couldn’t even say anything to her about it. How was I suppose to begin? She would definitely flip just as I was doing right

“Ariel? What about her?” I pressed further. I wanted him to say otherwise. 

“We’re all werewolves, Rory.” He announced, “More than half the population of this town are werewolves.”

“I don’t know what to say anymore.” I admitted, with a sigh.

“Don’t say anything then. Ryker replied curtly: “Take your time to clear your head, but don’t forget Kaiden isn’t a very patient person.” He chuckled, his eyes glinting.

“You’re probably the only person he’s ever been very patient with.” He confessed, standing from the bed.

“But we’re of different species Ryker.” I stated the obvious, “We shouldn’t be involved in any form of relationship.”

“Yes we are different but ask yourself this. He drawled out. “if you never found out, was there anything that indicated we are different?”

I shook my head, “No.” I whispered in a quiet tone. If anything they were more good looking than we were.

“Exactly, Rory. And are you sure you’ll be fine without Kaiden in your life?” He asked, and without waiting for my response he spun on his heels.

“See you later, Rory.” He yelled back, shutting the door behind him.

His question had me puzzled. Would I really be fine without Kaiden in my life? My heart tighten at the thought of it.

No, I wouldn’t be fine without him. I was in love with him. I wanted Kaiden regardless of what he was. This was why I was scared of speaking, I was scared of acknowledging that I was crazy.

I felt guilty for feeling this way about him when his people were responsible for my mother’s death. But Kaiden wasn’t the one who killed her and he could help me find her killer.
