Chapter 46
kaiden
I strolled into my office lazily, my usual serious expression in place, Last night, after returning from the hospital, I had sent Aurora to bed early. I was relieved she hadn’t questioned me about my feelings for her, though the curiosity in her eyes had.
been obvious
“Alpha Kaiden.“Derek greeted me with a glint in his eye as I settled into my chair.
“What was so important that you couldn’t knock before barging int I growled, my gaze hardening on him.
I apologize, Alpha.” He quickly sobered, his expression returning to its usual composure.
I sighed, twirling a pen between my fingers. “Speak.”
He hesitated for a moment before saying, “I saved a human who claims to be your woman.”
That piqued my interest. I raised an eyebrow. “My woman?”
He nodded. “Yes, Alpha. She’s slender, average height, brown eyes, fair skin-
I cut him off with a blank expression. “You must have studied her quite thoroughly to describe her in such detail”
Derek shifted uncomfortably, his body tensing. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to stare at her like that,” he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper.
I inhaled sharply, already suspecting who he was referring to. I wasn’t angry, my woman was at home. But if he had dared admire Aurora in such a way, I wouldn’t hesitate to gouge his eyes Du!.
“Where is she?” I asked, rising from my chair.
“In the storeroom,” he replied, turning to lead the way, I followed behind.
When he pulled open the door, Layla was seated on a chair, legs crossed. Her gaze immediately lifted to mine as we stepped inside.
“Mr. Thane,” she greeted brightly, springing to her feet. Her eyes flickered to Derek behind me, and I didn’t miss the affection in her expression. It was almost laughable, especially considering the way he had described her just moments ago,
“So, you’re my woman?” I asked coldly, ignoring their silent exchange.
“What? No!” she snapped, her focus shifting back to me. Behind me. I heard Derek exhale in quiet relief.
“The men after me mistook me for Aurora, so I went along with it,” she explained.
I nodded. I already knew which men she was talking about. I had seen them lurking around the hospital last night. They had mistaken her for my mate, and I had no intention of correcting that mistake. That was exactly why I had been especially cold to her last night. I needed her to leave so they would take her as they planned and so they wouldn’t see Aurora.
I just hadn’t expected Derek to interfere. It seemed he would be doing a lot more saving
I was selfish for risking another’s life to protect Aurora, but I didn’t care. It seems love even made one more heartless.
“Take her home, Derek,” I ordered, turning on my heels without another glance.
1 knew he had questions about the Aurora‘ Layla had mentioned, but he wouldn’t dare ask. And while I trusted Derek to keep her existence a secret, I would let him wonder about Aurora’s identity for as long as I could–until, of course, the tune

came when her existence could no longer be hidden.
hark, Kaiden‘” Ryker’s voice rang from the hall, his tone a little too chirpy for my liking
“Did you retrieve her?” I asked, turning toward my office. He followed behind,
“Don’t you trust me?” he quipped, collapsing into the chair across from my desk, exhaustion flickering in his eyes.
“I don’t.” I said coldly, leaning back in my chair.
His brows shot up playfully. “What? I’ve stood by you for years, and you still don’t trust me?”
“I trust you not to betray me, Ryker. That’s about it.” My voice was flat. “Where’s Rhea“”
He exhaled heavily. “In the pack house.”
I nodded, dismissing him with a look. It seemed I had two people to deal with now.
Before he could leave, he hesitated. “How’s Rory?”
I met his gaze. “She’s fine. A little traumatized.”

His lips pressed into a thin line. “You should probably come clean to her, Alpha. She needs to know the truth about you and how to protect herself.”
A dark chuckle escaped me. “Come clean to her?” I repeated bitterly. “Do I need to remind you that she despises our kind? And worse. I’m the one who killed her mother.
Ryker didn’t flinch, but I saw the flicker of unease in his eyes.
“She’ll leave me the second she finds out what kind of monster I am,” I continued, my voice colder now. “So don’t fucking give me that advice again,
His jaw tightened. “So you plan to keep it from her forever?”
you
“Yes.” My tone left no room for argument. “And you won’t breathe a word to her.” My warning was sharp, but he held my gaze, defiant.
Silence stretched between us before 1 changed the subject. “Derek seems to have found love.”
Ryker’s brow lifted, the tension between us momentarily shifting. “What? With who?”
I sighed. “Layla. And she seems to like him too.”
“Layla?” His disbelief irritated me. “As in Rory’s best friend, Layla?”
I shot him a glare. “Which other Layla do you think I’m talking about?”
“How did he even meet her?”
“He saved her from the Old Crook’s men last night and brought her to the club,” I informed him, watching as he processed the information.
Ryker leaned back, considering. “Maybe she’s his mate. You know he never really had one before.”
I shook my head dismissively. “It doesn’t matter to me. She’s his problem now.” Then, shifting gears, I added, “Let Layla see her dad’s corpse. Aurora wouldn’t stop bugging me about it last night.”
“But there are claw marks on his abdomen. Ryker pointed out.

“I don’t fucking care. Let her see his body as it is. It’s not like the’s going to examine it,” I snappedd
He sighed but nodded. “Understood, Alpha He stood, and I did the same.
“You’re heading to the pack house too?” he asked as I stepped pair him.
“I need to check on my hostage A smirk tugged at my lips.

Ryker said nothing as we left. He drove us in my car, the silence between us settling like a heavy weight. When we arrived, I stepped out, moving down the hall as pack members greeted us.
My focus remained on the room where I kept my prisoners.
I pushed open the door to the prisoner room, my lips curling into a sinister smile as my gaze fell on Rhea–Alpha Clark’s daughter, the old crook’s precious little heir.
She was bound to a chair, her wrists secured tightly, and a strip of tape sealed her lips.
“You did well, Ryker,” I said to Ryker, who stood quiet by the side. I stepped closer as she squirmed, trying to put distance
between us
“Nice to finally meet the famous Rhea,” I mocked, gripping her face roughly. With one sharp tug, I ripped the tape from her
mouth.
She spat in my face“Bastard!” she hissed, her eyes burning with anger..
I chuckled darkly, wiping the spit away. “You’re lucky I’m busy tormenting someone else right now,” I murmured, circling behind her. “Otherwise, I’d take my time teaching you some proper manners.” My hand snaked around her throat, squeezing just enough to remind her of who was in control.
“You’re the rude one for kidnapping me without permission,” she shot back, her voice laced with defiance.
I smirked. “You know, I killed my own parents, the ones who should’ve taught me manners.” My tone was mockingly innocent
Her jaw tightened. “What do you want with me?”
I chuckled, impressed by her composure. “As expected of Alpha Clark’s daughter. So brave.”
I let go of her neck, leaning in, 1 let my voice drop to something colder. “Your father has been causing trouble for my pack for a while now, and I never retaliated. I dealt with the traitors on my end and let you guys keep crossing the line, without saying a word”
“So why are you reacting now?” she demanded, fire flashing in her eyes.
She was clever, I would give her that.
“I heard you’re getting married,” I mused.
Her brows furrowed. “And how does my marriage have anything to do with you?”
“It has everything to do with me.” I tilted my head, watching her. “Torrence Pack is the second–largest and strongest after mine. Marrying you off to Moon Blood Pack strengthens your father’s hand. And knowing how ambitious he is well, that doesn’t exactly work in my favor.”
Her eyes searched mine, weighing my words. “How long do you plan to keep me here?”
“For as long as it benefits me,” I replied smoothly. “You’re my bargaining chip.”

1 let out a low chuckle, stepping away. “You’ll find out soon enough”
With that, I turned and walked out of the room, locking the door behind me
