Chapter 40
Kaiden
Ever had that nagging feeling in your gut that something was wrong?
That was exactly how I felt, sitting at my desk, staring into space. I couldn’t tell if it was paranoia or instinct, but the thought of someone hurting Aurora wouldn’t leave me alone. To ease my nerves, I checked the tracking app on my phone. She was home.
“You’re going to get wrinkles if you keep scrunching your face like that,” Ryker remarked.
I shot him a glare. “Did you find out what Moon Blood and Torrence Pack are up to”
“Apparently, the two packs met to arrange a marriage between their children,” he said casually.
“Marriage?” I repeated, my eyes hardening.
He nodded. “The current Alpha of Moon Blood Pack is set to marry Rhea, the daughter of that old crook” The “old crook” being the Alpha of the Torrence Pack whom was constantly wedging war with me.
I clenched my jaw. A sudden marriage alliance? This meant the two packs would merge, strengthening their forces- something that worked against me.
I might be strong, but I never underestimated my enemies. If they joined forces against me, the outcome wouldn’t be in my favor. One pack was already difficult to deal with, the two merged together?
“When is the wedding?” I asked, a dark glint in my eyes as an idea formed.
Ryker gave me a knowing look “What are you planning now, Kaiden?”
1 smirked. “Nothing too extreme. Just thinking… there can’t be a wedding if the bride goes missing, right?”
He chuckled, his eyes sparking. “I’ll find out more.”
I nodded, dismissing him before twirling a pen between my fingers, already plotting Rhea’s kidnapping.
Standing in front of the door, unease gouged down my spine. Something was off.
Maybe it was the lingering scent of another whom I was yet to identify. Or the way the door stood slightly ajar. Aurora was always careful. She never left doors open.
My teeth clenched as I pushed it wider. The scent grew stronger, no longer unfamiliar–Owen.
Stepping inside, the first thing I saw was Layla lying unconscious on the floor.
It wasn’t paranoia after all
I didn’t waste time searching for Aurora. The answer was obvious–she was gone.
I crouched beside Layla, not bothering to check for a pulse. The soft rhythm of her heartbeat told me she was alive. I shook her gently, needing answers.
She jolted awake with a sharp gasp, her wide eyes locking onto mine. “Mr. Thane.” she mumbled, sitting up, confusion flickering across her face as she took in the room.

“Where’s Aurora?” I growled, my voice laced with fury as I stared into Layla’s soul.
Her eyes widened in sudden realization. “Aurora” she gasped, scrambling to her feet, panic written all over her face.
“What happened to her?” I barked, stepping closer. She flinched at the hostility in my voice, but I didn’t care. My mate was all that mattered, and if I had to rip the answer from her, I would
“Owen she whispered, her eyes welling with tears.
I grabbed her face, my grip tightening. I don’t have the patience for this. What the fuck happened to Aurora?”
“Owen took her, she choked out, her body trembling
I released her roughly, watching as she collapsed back onto the floor. Without another word, I stalked to my room, yanked open my laptop, and pulled up the security footage from the moment I left this morning
My blood boiled as I watched the video, Owen. He had the audacity to walk into my home and take my Aurora. And worsel He wanted me to know. He made sure to glare straight into the CCTV, smirking like he knew exactly how I’d react.
Tll fucking kill you, Owen,” I snarled, my fists clenching.
The sharp ring
ng of my phone interrupted my rage. Ryker’s name flashed on the screen.
“What?” 1 barked, gripping the phone so hard I thought it might break.
“Layla’s dad is dead.”
I barely reacted. His death meant nothing to me–except for one thing. They had finally made their move. They took the bait I intentionally left.
But Owen. If he knew who my mate was, then the Moon Blood Pack did too. Unless he never showed them her face which had them mistaking Layla for Aurora.
“Owen took Aurora. I’ll be at the pack house in a few minutes.” I said coldly, already walking out of my room,
I cast a side glance at Layla, still sitting on the floor, guilt carved into her features. She was the reason Aurora was gone. She had brought him here. I saw it all on the footage. The only thing stopping me from tearing her apart was only because of
Aurora.
“Go home,” I spat out curtly.
Her head snapped up, her voice shaky. I’m sorry, Mr. Thane. This is all my fault.”
She scrambled from the floor, her head hung low in guilty.
I let the silence stretch, my gaze pinning her in place. “Exactly. Aurora is missing because of you. And you better pray, pray that nothing happens to her.” My voice dropped to a deadly whisper. “Because if she’s harmed, I’ll rip you apart, piece by piece.”
With that, I turned and walked out leaving her standing there stunned.
I drove to the pack house, my grip tight on the steering wheel. Ryker was already outside, waiting.
“Kaiden.” He greeted, falling into step beside me as I marched inside.
“I need to find out where Aurora is.” 1 commanded, leaving no room for argument.
“Of course. I’ll handle it.” Ryker nodded, his tone submissive. Then he hesitated before asking. “What should I do with Layla’s dad’s body?”

I stopped in my tracks, turning to him with a glare. “Does that look like my problem right now?” I snapped, my blood boiling. “Whatever you do with his body is the least of my concerns. The Moon Blood Pack dared to challenge me”
Ryker shook his head. “Actually, Alpha, it wasn’t Moon Blood, it was Torrence.”

A bitter chuckle escaped me. “Same difference. They just didn’t have the guts to face me themselves, so they sent their new ‘family‘ to do their dirty work.” I ran a hand down my face, forcing my rage to stay controlled.
My voice dropped, cold and lethal, “After I find Aurora, I’ll deal with them.”
My fists clenched as I exhaled slowly. Just hang in there, Aurora. I’m coming for you, love.
