Chapter 138
Elara
“You’re going to help him, right?” I asked, tugging Evie’s arm as she raised the cup to her lips.

She snapped her neck to my direction, pairing her eyes at me, “Can’t I eat peacefully anymore?” She asked with a frustrated sigh, dropping down the mug cup to the table.
“Just a perfect way to ruin my appetite.” Michael groaned in response, chewing his food grumpily.
“I ruined your appetite, yet you’re still eating?” I asked sarcastically. I always had breakfast with my family, while the other witches ate when they felt the need to. It had never been a necessity to eat together, except of course in special occasions.
“Elara,” My mom sighed, through her arms up in the air in frustration.
She didn’t have to speak to know she wasn’t in support. She hated him just as Evie did. No, Evie didn’t hate him as much as she may claimed to. Something flashed in her eyes that morning she saw me hugging Kaiden. Something that wasn’t anger.
I felt the need to stake my claim on him seeing the way she stared at us that day, but it will only cause trouble. Besides, Evie was in love with Michael. It may have been mistaken, maybe have been pity.
“Mom.” I responded naturally, flashing her a wide smile. “I know what you are going to say, but Evie has the final verdict.” I added smugly, glancing at Evie who had an almost blank expression in her face.
She glared at me before glancing at Evie. She knew I was right. Evie was the chief of the Dark Coast, and the strongest witch. Whatever she says stands, and no one could change that except me. However I wouldn’t dare to when I was powerless.
“Give it up, Elara, she won’t do it.” Michael declared with coldness, “Why should we help an enemy?” He asked rhetorically, wiping the corners of his mouth.
“You’re sure this is just about helping him, and nothing more?” Michael arched in curiosity.
They all stared at him with angry eyes before snapping their necks my direction. They had wanted to ask that question since that day I slept in Kaiden’s room, but were scared of my response. As though I would ever admit to liking him.
“What more could it be?” I shrugged, rolling my eyes with pretense disgust.
I remember spending hours explaining what had transpired that night I slept in his room, and convincing them that Kaiden wasn’t taking advantage of me. I hugged him that morning cause of a nightmare I couldn’t seem recall on waking up. All I felt was sadness, and heartbreak seeing him.
“He’s just an unwanted guest, Elara. You should stay away from him.” My mom said softly, but it was clearly a warning. A warning to not fall for him, but it was too late. I like him already. I can’t explain why I feel this way.
Was it love at first sight? No, it couldn’t be. I was irritated by his rudeness the first time we met until he passed out. It felt like I couldn’t breath properly seeing him in that state.
“So, Evie?” I raised my eyes in question, blinking my eyes hopefully.
She raised her eyes from her plate, licking her lips as though in thought. “I can’t force the other witches into something they don’t want.” She stated with a sigh. Looks like she didn’t feel pity for him after all.
If only she knew I was using her to get closer to Kaiden. I was taking advantage of his curiosity. He was back to believing she was his lover, and I didn’t bother correcting him. Not like I could anyway.
“We both know you can handle the ritual alone.” I pointed out. She hummed in response, her jaw tightened. She wasn’t willing.

“Please?” I added with a pout, faking a tear. She hissed in frustration, ignoring my plea. My shoulders dropped in disappointment, a frown etched on my face as my words lingered on the air leaving an unpleasant tug in my chest.
“Fine. I’ll help him.” She mumbled in a near whisper. My ears perked up in disbelief as I stared with wide eyes. She wasn’t joking with me, right?
“What did you say?” My mom and Michael asked in unison with shock on their faces.
She huffed, pushing the strand of her back. “I will help the beast.” She repeated more slowly, staring at all of us.
“Ginny!” Michael slammed his hand on the table angrily, his eyes blazing in anger. I laughed, jumping from the chair and throwing my weight on her body.
“I’m choking, Elara.” She said playfully, pushing me away from her.
“Thank you, Evie.” I grinned, holding her hands in between mine tightly. Kaiden will finally free. His pain will end.
“How can you..” Michael trailed with venom, clenching his fist.
“I’m so disappointed in you, Ginny.” My mom spat bitterly, glaring at both of us. Her face was flushed as she sat on the chair with the world’s weight on her shoulders.
“But there’s a catch.” Evie informed, ignoring their words.
The smile on my face wiped off as I asked, “What’s the catch?”
“I will only help him if you stay away from him.” She shrugged off with a sly smile. My breath hitched in my throat, staring at her stupidly. I withdrew my hands slowly, my gaze falling to the floor.
Was her request out of protectiveness or jealousy?
“Well?” She persuaded impatiently. I gave her a half smile before nodding my head in response.
“Good.” She smiled, clapping her hands before walking out of the room. My mom, and Michael followed her closely, obviously to convince her against her decision.
If she really thought I would avoid Kaiden, then she was mistaken.
