Layla’s smile grew wider as her name fell out of my lips. It couldn’t possibly be her, I killed her.
“That’s not Layla.” Ariel countered from the side with a side glance, scrambling to her feet with the help of Ryker.
I stared at her in confusion, before staring back at Layla who took a step forward.
“I’m still Layla, Ari” She insisted mockingly, brushing past me to the chair positioned at the corner of the room.
“How are you alive?” I asked with confusion. I vividly remember stabbing her with a knife, and her heartbeat fading. Was it a pretense? Had the North council fooled me into believing she was dead?
“I faked it just like I did in the past.” She replied smugly, crossing her legs.
“What do you mean in the past?” I growled in response, staring at Aurora’s frame in worry.
“She’s Keira.” Ariel announced before Layla could spit out the words. The room fell silent. I stared at Layla with disdainful gaze. There was no way she was Keira. I saw Keira dropped dead after that old crook shot her.
“There’s no way you’re Keira.” I snarled in denial. Her hollow laughter filled the room as she slowly climbed down of the chair.
“But I’m Keira, Mr Thane.” She mocked, taking slowly strides towards me.
“No, you are not.” I growled out, yanking her hands off my arms.
“Hmm…” She trailed pursing her lips in the air. “Remember how I told you I wanted to be called Jane in my next life?” She enquired with a sly smile.
I remembered. She echoed it each time I called her that.
“And remember your response?” She quipped, dimming her eyes. “there’s no next life, Keira, and if there was, they won’t be any for you.” She mimicked my words. Same words I said to her years back. My blood ran cold as I stared at her.
“Sorry to disappoint, but there is a next life, Kaiden.” She insisted, “I’m living another life, aren’t I?”
“You’re really Keira” I said in disbelief causing her to smirk at me.
“Yes, Mr Thane.” She nodded innocently, striding back to her seat. I didn’t know how to feel about Keira surviving, but I didn’t feel good about it. She was now a psychopath.
“Keira?” Ryker said for the first time since she walked in, taking a step forward.
“Yes, Ryker.” She replied in confirmation, flashing him a wide smile.
“How… Why..” He stuttered in shock, his words lingering in the air.
“How am I still alive?” She completed, resting her face on her hands. “As you may have guessed, I switched my souls with this one.” She pointed to her face.
“I saw you drop dead and we held a funeral for you. How-” She cut off me off sharply.
“Because I’m more smarter than you are.” She insulted, gritting her teeth. “I’m smarter than all of you.” She smirked.
“You did bury me, My body actually.” She revealed smugly.
“It was the real Layla that died that night.” I stated in realization.

“She needed to die for me to survive.” She didn’t care about killing a human. “Besides she was willing to exchange her live with mine for a little extra cash.”
“So you’ve been living your life as Layla for five years?” Ariel asked in clear disbelief. “All just to get back at us?”
“And it was worth it. I learnt how to blend with humans, and I got really lucky too. I got to know a lot about your mate by becoming your employee, brother.” She admitted with a grin.
“And Derek?” Ryker asked carefully with a fury in his eyes, “Did you order for his death?”
“What? Of course, not.” She raised her hands quickly feigning anger by the accusation before she bursted into laughter.
“Your brother was quite nice. but I was tired of playing the good girl, and he just happened to be a victim.” She responded.
“You killed him.” Ryker gritted angrily, lunging forward but her guard blocked his path, shaking his head in disapproval.
“I did kill him.” She confessed with a proud smile, “He was in love with me, and my ‘death‘ would have torment him forever. I had to end his future torment.” She defended without remorse.
Ryker stared at her in disbelief, staggering backward in shock. Ariel rushed to his side, holding his hand with a reassuring
smile.
“When you both left the pack house that day, Silas informed me about it, and I knew then that Derek needed to die.” She laughed like a maniac.
“Silas had you both followed, while standing by with the truck that hit Derek.”
“But I must say it was fun watching you blame Kaiden for my death and Derek’s.” She added, twirling a strand of her hair.
“And the North council?” I demanded eagerly. “Are they in this too?”
“No, They aren’t. It just as I said that day. They didn’t even know I was Keira.” She informed.
“They probably think I’m dead too.” She pursed her lips, “I only accepted their offer to discover more about Aurora through their stupid experiment.”
“When did you become this evil?” I snapped angrily, “For fuck sake, Aurora is your best friend, Layla.” I roared angrily.
“I’m evil?” She pointed to herself with a hint of sarcasm, “We aren’t siblings for no reason, Kaiden. You’ve killed far more people than I can think of.” She spat out with a pointed look.
She was referring to my parents death. Keira started acting out after their death, mostly trying to change my orders, but I never thought much of it.
“It was an accident!” My voice boomed across the quiet room. “I didn’t just kill them cause it sounded nice.” I added sarcastically in disdain.
“I always wanted to your position, but I let go cause you’re my brother. After you killed mom, and dad too, I realized how unfit you were for that position.” She said in honesty, stepping out of the chair.
“What do you plan to get out of all this?” I questioned with piercing gaze.
“I get revenge.” She wasn’t entirely truthful, but I didn’t care asking further.
“I came here for Aurora, and I plan on leaving here with her no matter what.” I declared firmly.
“That’s fine by me, but we need to play a little game for that to happen.” She exchanged gaze with her guard. He nodded before taking out two gun from the band of his pants and throwing it to the ground. ·

I stared at the gun in question. “What’s this for?”
“Kill Ryker, and walk out with Aurora.” She ordered in a serious tone.
