“Aren’t you going to work?” I asked in curiosity, staring at Ryker with a hard gaze. I just got back from the grocery store, only to find him in bed.
“No, I’m not.” He groaned into the pillow.
“Why?” I demanded, staring at him suspiciously. He’s been staying work home since Derek died. I didn’t think much about it then because it was still fresh in his memory, but it’s already been two weeks since Derek was buried
“I’m tired, Ariel” He stared with an underlying warning laced in his words which meant to cut it out.
“You’ve been avoiding the pack like a plague since the death of your brother.” I said calmly, sitting by the edge of the bed.
“What’s going on?” I demanded in a neutral voice.
“Nothing is going on. His voice sounded distance, like he wasn’t here with me.
“You have suddenly lost the ability to smile or even talk to me.” I said bitterly, resist the urge to snap at him.
talking to you, what more do you want?” His voice was growing louder.
“Fucking look at me!” I screamed with a hollow laugh. “I feel like I’m talking to a wall rather than a person.” I admitted with a twisted expression.
“You’re infuriating, Ariel!” He spat, shooting me a cold stare before getting up from the bed.
I chuckled in amusement, creasing my eyebrow, “I’m infuriating?” I trailed behind him as he stormed out of the room.
I grabbed his arm to gain his attention but he pushed me away angrily. “You don’t ever listen!” He roared with fury in his eyes. My eyes widened in shock as my butt hit the cold floor.
“I’m going out.” He announced, spinning on his heels and walking out without a second glance.
I stared at the closed doors without blinking still processing what had just happened. Ryker had never been the violent type, at least not to me. I scrambled to my feet, gently wiping the imaginary dirt on my dress.
He wasn’t fine. He has become the shadow of himself. We barely talked despite the fact we live together. It was always a one worded response. I needed to know what happened with Derek to be able to help him pass through this phase. All he told us was how they got knock out by a car due to over speeding. I was led to believe they had been together in same car, until the nurse at the hospital claimed otherwise.
I had a feeling that whatever happened with Derek had something to do with Kaiden. Derek’s mate mysteriously died with no explanation from Ryker neither did I get to see a body to confirm her death. Somehow they knew she was dead which meant either one of them had witnessed it.
The only way I would get an answer to my questions was to confront Kaiden about it.

I tapped my feet on the floor, impatiently waiting to be called into Kaiden’s office. “You can go in A pack member–Silas informed, gesturing to Kaiden’s office
“Thank you.” I muttered with a smile, walking past him. I knocked on the door, strolling in without waiting for an invitation
“Fancy seeing you here,” Kaiden said sarcastically with a forced smile on his face. He looked way better than he did two

“I only allowed you into the pack house because of Derek’s funeral. That doesn’t mean you could walk in here anytime you want.” He scowded at me with stoic face.
“I didn’t plan on coming here either, but I just needed answers.” I admitted, sinking into the chair.
“Answers to what exactly, Ariel” He demanded in a harsh tone. I was surprised he hadn’t thrown me out of this building or
aru killed me.
What’s going on with Ryker?” Tasked directly, with a poker face.
“Did you storm in here to about your boyfriend?” He asked slowly with an unreadable expression.
“He doesn’t talk, neither does he go anywhere. Ladded, ignoring his question. “I asked why he wasn’t going to work and he snapped at me“I chuckled in frustration.
“That’s cause be quit” He said calmly, a littler calmer than I expected.
“He quit work?” I creased my face in confusion.
He hummed in response. “He’s no longer the beta of this pack.”
I blinked my eyes to process his words. “Is this some some oke?” I laughed in surprise.
“Did you see a smile on my face?” He retorted, crossing his arms in a challenge.
“Ryker loved his role as the beta. He wouldn’t just quit for no reason.” I shook my head in denial
“What did you do to him?” I question coldly, my gaze burning into his. “You had something to do with Derek’s death right?” I didn’t hide the accusation in my eyes
“Are you saying I killed Derek?” He responded coldly, the corner of his lips lifting up.
“Did you?” I challenged, sending him a death glare.
“No. Ariel I didn’t” He responded before saying, “but I was partly to blame for his death.”
“I killed Layla.” He confessed with a shrug
“Why?” I found myself asking in a low tone.
he was a spy and wanted Aurora dead. I had no choice.” He defended without remorse, not like I expected one from him.
“And Derek?” I demanded with coldness..
“He got into an accident after learning how I killed his mate.” He explained curtly.
That explained why Ryker left the pack. Kaiden was to be blamed for what happened to Derek.
“Do you feel sorry for what you did?” I asked with an edge in my voice. My dad also died because of Aurora. It might have been my fault for plotting against her, but he was responsible for his death.
“Why should I?” He shrugged off, flashing me a wide grin.
I hissed in anger, grabbing my bag and storming out of the office. How can a person be so selfish? He had successfully made Ryker turn his back on him and worst, he felt no remorse? I felt sorry for Ryker.
“Iaby?” I yelled as I walked into the house. Seems he wasn’t home yet.

Chapter 102
I took a step into the sitting room, instantly freezing when I saw four men sitting on the couch.
“Hello, Ariel” One of them greeted, waving his hand with a smile on his face. I couldn’t recognize either of them, but they were obviously werewolves
“What do you guys want?” I asked calmly, taking a step back.
“You are coming with us” Another announced with finality in his tone. They all stood together, surrounding me. Seems like a fight was unavoidable.
I lunged for them, digging my claw through one of the men’s flesh. I smiled in satisfaction when he hissed in pain, his ground
but stood
“All at once. The first man who spoke commanded. He seems to be their head. The roared in anger, rushing towards me in unison. I tried to dodge their attack but I wasn’t fast enough. I felt the flesh on leg being torn open. I groaned, falling to the floor and pressing the affected part in pain.
I felt a another sharp pain on the back on my neck. “That is for attacking me, bitch” The injured man spat, grabbing my head roughly.
Tie
her up!” The leader ordered and he chorused in response. My heart pounded out of my chest as they approached me
with chains.
Ryker, help, I screamed in panic through the mind link.
