Chapter 16 16
As the realization dawned on them, many people began to regain their composure, sneaking glances at Theo and his companions. Quite a few of them had attended Theo’s birthday party, where he had famously defied his father, Saul, in a fit of rage to defend a woman’s honor.
Not long after, he had been “taken advantage of by my exorbitant demands,” and then, “devastated,” he got engaged to Cecilia. Who didn’t know about that?
But the problem was, that person was supposed to be disabled. So even if they recognized my face, they didn’t immediately connect the dots. Now, seeing it clearly, it was obvious that I was the same person.
The expressions on everyone’s faces were varied and colorful. The recent scandal had been so embarrassing, and the purpose of today’s banquet was now glaringly obvious–it was to vent the anger of Thea.
Given Ms. Miller of the Sunrise Group’s strong and decisive nature, Theo was bound to “go through hell” in the future.
Rosalie squeezed my arm. “That guy! Hmph, three years ago, young Mr. Lewis had an accident and injured his legs. A grown man, was on the verge of despair.”
“My sister has a soft heart. Ever since she was little, she’d stay up all night to care for any injured stray cat or dog she found. She couldn’t bear to see him suffer, so she sacrificed herself for three years.”
I lowered my eyes, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Rosalie continued unhurriedly, “She was just trying to help, but who knew this girl, protected by us since childhood and never having been in a relationship, would mistake pity for love and start dating him. And now, look at the misunderstandings it has caused.”
Though her tone was joking, anyone could see the disdain and sarcasm in Rosalie’s expression.
Listening to everyone echo Rosalie’s words, I couldn’t help but feel a bit awkward.
I thought of my once–secret crush. Being called overly compassionate was better than being labeled as someone who was
lovesick.
People speculated that after today, the Lewis Group would be in trouble.
“Even letting someone trample on her genuine feelings. I’ve seen the online rumors saying my sister was after the Lewis Group’s shares. Ha! Utterly unfounded. That little bit of stock, not worth my sister’s time. If it weren’t for my sister, why
would we even consider collaborating with the Lewis Group?”
“The Lewis Group has humiliated both the Miller and Clark families. I hereby announce that the Miller and Clark families will never cooperate with the Lewis Group again.”
Rosalie’s tone was full of disdain.
At her words, a hush fell over the room.
If anyone else had said that, people would have taken it as a joke. But this was Ms. Miller of the Sunrise Group speaking.

Chapter 16 16
Indeed, the Miller and Clark families were based in Evrord and were one of the top players there. Ten Lewis Groups couldn’t compare to the Clark family, let alone with the Miller family backing them.
For some reason, they had been appearing frequently in Mecpus in recent years.
But the “things” she spoke of with such disdain were what many people dreamed of but couldn’t attain.
It seemed the collaboration was doomed.
Rumors had it that the Miller and Clark families doted on Thea. It appeared the rumors were not only true but perhaps
even understated!
With the two major groups announcing they would never cooperate with the Lewis Group, the latter was bound to be on the brink of collapse. After all, who would dare risk offending both the Miller and Clark families?
Theo, looking devastated, walked forward, completely ignoring Cecilia’s attempts to pull him back.
