Chapter 12 12
Taking advantage of Rosalie and Jasper being at work, otherwise, they would have definitely not let me go out.
I hadn’t expected that even at this point, Theo was still nearly half an hour late.
Moreover, he was followed by several men in matching suits.
It looked like he had hired a few bodyguards.
Theo, upon seeing me, acted like nothing had happened between us, spreading his arms to hug me.
I raised my water glass threateningly, signaling that if he dared to come closer, I would splash it on him.
In the chic café, there were a few scattered patrons around, and Theo didn’t want to make a scene.
“I received a message from the property management this afternoon. You trashed our apartment.”
In reality, he had ordered a bouquet of flowers and had the property management deliver it directly to the door. When no
one answered for a long time, they called Theo.
Theo immediately thought of the surveillance cameras.
But I had already turned off the cameras, so when he returned, he saw the mess everywhere.
Because I had trashed the apartment, Theo was genuinely panicked.
That’s why he urgently sent that email.
“This apartment was indeed too small. It’s fine if it’s trashed. I’ve bought you a Chinese–style villa.”
“Look, it even comes with a small garden and a pond. I remember you like flowers. You can spend your free time gardening and raising fish. Do you like it?”
Theo directly opened his phone’s photo album, swiping through the pictures one by one.
If I wasn’t mistaken, this was a high–end villa under the Glow Group. Each square meter cost a hundred thousand, and it featured traditional Chinese landscape design, exuding a sense of understated yet luxurious elegance.
Seeing my attention fixed on the pictures, he continued, “I know I’ve neglected you lately, but I’ve always been planning for our future in private.”
“You like a peaceful life and don’t like being disturbed. Don’t worry, this villa is in the suburbs, so you won’t be bothered.”
“I’ll also hire a few people to take care of your daily needs. Aren’t you close with Mabel? I’ll offer her a high salary to come and take care of you.”
I frowned slightly, “What do you mean by this?”
Theo stood up and knelt on one knee, “Thea, I love you. Will you marry me?”
I looked at him quietly.
Chapter 12 12
For the past three years, no, for the past seven years, I had imagined this countless times. I had even desperately sought his affection when I learned of his so–called “pain,” trying to make a final effort for our relationship.
But now, looking at his self–proclaimed deep affection, I only felt it was absurd.
He might love me, but this love was mixed with too much reality, gratitude, habit, and dependence.
My leaving had panicked him, making him desperate to hold onto me.
The people around, oblivious to the situation, began to cheer.
My gaze was calm as I slowly said, “I don’t want to.”
“Theo, I’ve let go. I’ve wisely stepped back. So, let’s part ways amicably. There’s no need to act like you’re deeply in love.”
Theo’s expression froze, “I know you’re still angry and sad. I promise, you are my only legal wife.”
Only legal wife?
He gazed at me with deep affection, declaring his resolve.
