A cool breeze blew in through the half–open car window. I leaned on Rosalie’s shoulder, calmly recounting the events of the past few days. It felt good to have someone to confide in, and Rosalie’s reaction was unexpected but comforting. There was a sense of an impending storm, a feeling that something significant was about to happen.
I didn’t want to seek revenge on Theo, but I also didn’t want him to benefit from our breakup. The Sunrise Group and the Glow Group could have easily completed the underwater world project together. Involving the Lewis Group was just a way to give Theo an advantage, allowing him to leverage the two companies‘ influence to reclaim his position as the heir of the Lewis Group. But now that we had broken up, I wasn’t going to let him gain anything from it.
After the heart–wrenching pain, I felt like I had been reborn. I no longer had to wait around for Theo or revolve my life around him. I had so much more time now. I moved in with the Miller family and returned to my carefree life. Occasionally, I would feel like a third wheel around Jasper and Rosalie. Yes, my brother and my sister were married. Initially, I struggled with how to address them–Rosalie was both my sister and my sister–in–law, and Jasper was both my brother and my
brother–in–law. During the day, they were formidable rivals in the business world, but at night… well, that’s another story.
As for my parents and Declan and his wife, they weren’t rigid people. They were actually quite pleased with the strong
partnership, as long as it didn’t interfere with their plans to travel the world.
A few days passed like this, and then I received a call from Theo. I had sent him a breakup text the day I left, but I hadn’t
expected him to call now after several days of silence. Perhaps he thought I couldn’t live without him and would come
crawling back after a few days.
“Thea… it’s been five days, and you haven’t called me,” he said.
I replied calmly, “Didn’t you get my text? We’ve broken up.”
I had thought that the deeper the love, the harder it would be to move on. But in reality, my family’s warmth and support
had given me immense strength.
“Thea, stop being childish. You must have thought things through in the apartment these past few days, right?”
So he didn’t take my breakup seriously; he thought I was just throwing a tantrum?
“Have you not been back to the apartment for five days? Did you not even check the surveillance? Theo… weren’t you afraid
I might have died in there?”
“Thea, don’t say things like that. You’re not that fragile. I’ll come back tonight, and we can talk.”
“There’s no need. We’ve already broken up.”
He scoffed, “Thea, where will you go after the breakup? How will you support yourself?”
Theo, is that why you felt confident enough to leave for five days without a word? You think I’m a dependent who can’t survive without you?”
“Thea… I was wrong. I shouldn’t have said that. But you should understand that I love you. The past few days have been overwhelming at the group, and I couldn’t… I couldn’t get away. I’ve been working overtime every day.”

“Overtime? Are you still lying? You’ve been working overtime with Cecilia, haven’t you?”
There was a long silence on the other end of the line.
“Thea… I’m a normal man.”
“So I’m supposed to understand your infidelity?”
“Why do you have to shatter the peace I’ve worked so hard to keep?”
