Chapter 5 Sending Scum to Prison Personally.
Chapter 5
Biting my lip, my face flushed with pent–up emotions.
“Oh, my little darling, my Sunny.”
She didn’t even get a good look at my face before rushing over to hug me tightly.
I glanced at the man behind her, dressed in a suit, his eyes moist as he watched us.
Even the female police officer turned away to secretly wipe her tears.
The elegant lady holding me lifted her hand to touch the faint pink birthmark on my forehead, examined it, and then hugged me again, crying even harder.
Eventually, I said goodbye to Mr. Chen and took them to a hotel. I spent the night with them, chatting until midnight as if they weren’t tired at all.
When the elegant lady heard about the abuse I had suffered over the years, she
slammed her fist on the bed.
“Sunny, we searched so hard for you. I never thought I’d see you again.”
I hadn’t yet felt the emotions of reuniting with my mother and kept comforting her, “It’s okay, it’s okay. Didn’t I survive just fine?”
Hearing me say that made her cry even harder.
Mom said my original name was Sunny, such a beautiful name, meant for a child who should live in the warm sunshine, always facing the sun.
Dad told me about the day I went missing. I was still in a baby blanket, and the family nanny had taken the day off. Mom had taken me to the park for a walk alone to relax. When she urgently needed to use the restroom, a woman holding a baby kindly offered
to watch me.
When Mom came out of the restroom, both I and the woman were gone.

Because of this, my biological parents almost got divorced.
Later, they always believed the police would find me, and their relationship grew even stronger as they waited for my return.
The next day, the three of us went for a DNA test.
While waiting for the results, I took them around to explore. Neither seemed in a hurry to go back. My biological father kept answering phone calls but showed no intention of leaving. Mom held my hand so tightly that even in the hot weather, she wouldn’t let go,
only using a moist towelette to dab at my sweat.
When the results came out, my biological parents cried again.
“Officer, please arrest those two child traffickers. I want to press charges for child
trafficking and abuse. I want them to rot in prison.”
George and his wife were summoned to the police station, still looking bewildered.
They thought there was a new development in my and Elodie’s case and came to the station happily.
When my biological mother saw my adoptive mother, she ran up and, before they could react, slapped her twice, leaving her stunned.
George tried to retaliate but was restrained by the police.
During the interrogation, they adamantly denied trafficking children and forging birth
certificates, insisting that I was abandoned near their home and they had kindly taken
me in.
The incident had happened 17 years ago. The police retrieved the old case files. When my mom reported me missing, the police had preserved the park’s surveillance footage. Although the footage was unclear back then, they decided to try the latest technology.
The police enlarged and enhanced the images from the video and compared them with George’s wife. After continuous image enhancement, the results matched.
When George and his wife saw the comparison results, they collapsed.
It turned out they had made a living by trafficking children and had earned a lot of dirty money.
When they were about to sell me, a nationwide anti–trafficking campaign had just started, and many traffickers were arrested. They got scared and, because I was a girl

and harder to sell, decided to keep me. They forged a birth certificate, making my and Elodie’s birth dates identical, and claimed we were twins.
They used the money they earned from trafficking to start a ceramics business, which had unexpectedly flourished over the years, earning them millions.
As for keeping me, they had planned to marry me off for a good dowry. They left me in the countryside with my grandparents, who knew I wasn’t their biological granddaughter and never spoke to me. They hadn’t expected me to study all the way to the provincial capital.
The police took them into police custody.
Elodie was probably still waiting for her parents to bail her out.
Having a second chance at life, it was only now that I felt the value of being alive.
I had parents who loved me. I wasn’t an unloved child or a burden.
During the last Christmas break of high school, my parents took me back to my original home.
“We never dared to move, afraid that if the police found you, they wouldn’t be able to find us.”
A boy taller than me stood next to my grandmother, holding her hand as they watched me from the doorway. My grandmother kept wiping her tears.
“Mom, Sunny is back.”
This was my grandmother. Mom pulled me to her, hugged her, and then hugged me, crying again. The atmosphere was so emotional that I couldn’t help but cry too.
Someone tugged at my clothes. “Sister, this is for you.”
My little brother held a beautiful princess cake in his hands.
“Good boy, Sunny, this is your brother. He’s in his first year of middle school. In the
years after you went missing, I became ill from worry. It took me a long time to recover from the pain of losing you, and then I had your brother. You two must help each other
from now on.”
