In the end, Jack was still sentenced.
Zoe insisted on pressing charges, and Jack was convicted of multiple counts of intentional harm, receiving a three-year sentence.
Because Zoe wasn’t his wife, his previous drunken assaults didn’t count as domestic violence and were instead categorized as intentional harm.
Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan ignored Jack’s pleas for bail.
They sold off all their company shares, liquidated assets, and kept only one old house. Then, they set off to travel the world and enjoy their twilight years in peace.
Finn, on the other hand, was getting transferred due to his outstanding performance.
This time, he was heading to headquarters in Thailand to take on the role of Marketing Director.
Before he left, Finn asked if I’d be interested in developing my career abroad. He told me he saw a lot of potential in me.
A few days ago, my brother had called to scold me after hearing what happened. He’d told me to come abroad and help manage the company with him.
But I wasn’t keen on joining the family business. With those connections, I always felt like my efforts would be overshadowed.
So, I accepted Finn’s offer.
I figured my brother wouldn’t go so far as to drag me back from Thailand.
The day the plane took off, the sky was perfectly clear.
As the plane ascended, everything I’d left behind, people and memories, was swallowed up beneath the clouds.
Finn leaned over and asked, “The boss was originally going to promote you to director. Now you’re coming with me as a secretary again. Do you regret it?”
I smiled and shook my head. “In life, how can we have so many regrets?”
