“Alright,” Quiana said, her voice cool. “Let’s just get this scene done. I’m heading off to makeup.
The makeup room was buzzing with laughter and chatter as artists worked their magic on the actors.
But Quiana’s entrance brought the room to a sudden halt. She slipped into a corner seat and dove into her script, flipping through it with a speed that left others in awe. Minutes ticked by, and no makeup artist approached her.
Jack barged in, his voice echoing through the quiet. “Alright, let’s get a move on!” he called out, spotting Quíana still untouched. “You’re not even in makeup yet,” he said, a hint of annoyance in his voice.
Quiana looked up, her gaze sweeping the room with a hint of frost.
“I’m just… busy. You know, this is hard,” a makeup artist replied.
“Yeah, we’re all swamped,” one of the makeup artists chimed in, nodding in agreement, though it was clear they were anything but.

A quick glance around revealed that some artists were clustered around a single actor, while another was packing up their kit at a leisurely pace–not exactly a scene of chaos.
Wendie smiled, “Last time I did Ms. Levine’s makeup, she wasn’t happy with it. I bet she won’t be pleased today either. Maybe she should do it herself, or call in Evelyn’s artist, but it seems like we’re out of time.”
Jack, growing impatient, said, “Hurry up, don’t make the whole crew wait for you.” With that, he stormed off.
As the others finished up and left to rehearse, Quiana was left alone in the dressing room. It was a clear snub, a silent message that she was being deliberately ignored.
She tossed the script aside, picked up an eyebrow pencil, and was just about to start on her own when a soft voice spoke up from behind, “I… I can help with your makeup.”
In the mirror, Quiana saw a young girl with braided hair, big eyes, and rosy cheeks, looking a bit nervous and shy.
“I’m new here and haven’t done anyone’s makeup yet, but if you don’t mind, I can give it a try,” the girl said, clutching her makeup kit tightly. “I might not match Laura’s skills, but I’m definitely not bad!” Her eyes shone with an unexpected spark of confidence.
Quiana leaned her elbow on the makeup table, a smirk playing on her lips. “Getting close to me might make you a target for the whole crew,” she warned.
The girl, Lena, blushed even more, her ears turning red. “Even if I wasn’t seen with you, I’d still be left out…” she admitted.
As a newcomer in the makeup team, she was essentially a gofer, never given a chance to work on an actor’s makeup. The film had been in production for days, and she hadn’t done any actual makeup yet.
Quiana shifted her gaze, then sat up straight. “Go ahead and start the makeup,” she said.
Lena was taken aback, her eyes widening in surprise. “You really want me to do your makeup?” she asked.
Quiana leaned her chin on her hand, a playful challenge in her voice. “Do you think you’ll disappoint me?”
This was the first time anyone had let her do their makeup since shooting began, and it was Quiana of all people!
Lena was overwhelmed with a mix of emotions, excitement, and gratitude, tears welling up in her eyes. “I’ll do my very best!” she promised, her voice trembling with emotion.
