“Acupuncture must be administered continuously for three days,” Quiana said, gathering her silver needles and taking out a pen and paper. Then she added, “These should be available at the National Medical Bureau.”
Shane scanned the list of about a dozen herbs. The first few were familiar and common, but the items grew increasingly rare as he continued, particularly the last two.
He frowned and said, “What are these? Names of people? Blood grass, blueflower grass-” Shane had never heard of those
names.
Quiana glanced at Shane and replied, “They’re rare, top–grade herbs. Does the National Medical Bureau have them?”
Shane seemed hesitant. That meant they did not have those rare herbs.
Quiana tilted her head and smiled, her eyes sparkling as she said, “Well, I have some.”
Whenever Quiana smiled like that, it meant trouble. A few months ago, when they had first met, she’d worn that same innocent smile before she had charged Julius several million dollars for a “pill.”
Shane smiled and asked, “How much do they cost?”
Quiana grinned and thought to herself, ‘That’s it!‘ She replied, “Not expensive at all–just one million dollars for a pound.”
Shane fell silent, pondering, ‘Why not just rob a bank? Does she create these herbs to jack up the price?‘ He was left speechless. “You-”
“Prepare enough; I’ll pay,” Julius interrupted before Shane could respond.
Quiana raised an eyebrow and replied, “Deal!”
After coughing up blood, Edward appeared more energetic. He watched them converse, his expression softening as he looked at Quiana. “Quiana, how’s the competition going?” he asked.
“Not bad,” Quiana answered politely.
Edward chuckled. “I saw it on TV. That’s-,” he said, raising his thumb.
Quiana smiled and replied, “Thank you, Mr. Hawley.”
Edward said, “I saw people trying to bully you. Don’t hesitate to call on the Hawley family-”
Quiana interrupted, “Mr. Hawley, Mr. Julius Hawley has paid me to save you. My affairs have nothing to do with the Hawley family.”
Quiana implied she didn’t need the Hawley family’s influence or protection. When Edward heard that, he narrowed his eyes and remained silent.
Quiana carried her bag and was ready to leave. However, Julius quickly grabbed her wrist and said, “Do you want to rest at my place?”
Quiana replied, “I need to go get the herbs.”
Julius frowned and offered, “I’ll take you there.”
“No need,” Quiana refused, pulling her hand free. She then turned to Shane and said, “Start using the other herbs. I’ll bring the rest tomorrow.” She left the bedroom without lingering or accepting any offer to be seen off.

In the courtyard, Derek and the rest were waiting anxiously. They quickly stood upon seeing Quiana,

Quiana followed the same path she had taken to enter. Her eyes swept over the layout of the old estate. She had been there twice now. Between what she should have explored and what she shouldn’t, she had covered almost everything.
The scanner hadn’t detected anything unusual, but the data couldn’t be wrong. If Quiana had stayed, she would have had a chance to investigate further. After leaving the training camp, she had other plans.
As Quiana reached the gate, a black Cayenne pulled up next to her. “Ms. Levine,” Leo called, rolling down the driver’s side window. “There are no cars nearby. Mr. Hawley told me to give you a ride.”
Quiana narrowed her eyes but did not refuse. “Take me to the slum,” she said. Leo hesitated for a second but did as he was told.
The slum looked the same. Quiana got out of the car on the outskirts, wearing a baseball cap. She avoided her usual route and took another alley.
Quiana entered a dilapidated building and climbed the narrow, cluttered stairs to the seventh floor. The hallway was littered with junk and plastered with advertisements for locksmiths. Quiana knocked on the door on her left in a sequence–four long knocks followed by three short ones.
After a minute, the door opened. A scruffy man in a black mask that hid his features looked at Quiana with piercing eyes. In a raspy voice, he asked, “What do want?”
