Moreover, Edward had been shot in the heart before. Even though the shrapnel was removed, it left a scar along the edge of his heart. With age, his organs had weakened, bringing about a myriad of new issues.
“Each time one ailment is treated, another emerges,” Quiana explained. “The sheer number of medications leads to clashes, gradually wearing down his lungs as the toxins build up.”
As Quiana spoke, she reached into her bag and drew out a roll of black cloth. Unfurling it, she revealed a set of silver needles of varying lengths and thicknesses, each gleaming with a cold glint.
Shane frowned. “You… What are you planning to do?”
Quiana lifted one of the silver needles, twirling it between her fingers. “I’m going to help his blood circulate.”
Shane glanced at Julius, who showed no intention of intervening. His lips parted to speak, but he remained silent. With a calm focus, Quiana began administering acupuncture to Edward.
Edward’s condition was complex; repressed energies, a weakening heart, and the toll of age. One wrong move could be deadly.
After months of treatment by the National Medical Bureau, nothing had managed to bring lasting relief. Worse still, it had led to Edward’s coma, making surgery too risky. In desperation, Julius thought of Quiana and sought her out.
Nearly an hour passed. Suddenly, Edward’s eyes flew open. He sat up abruptly, coughing out a thick, dark mouthful of blood. “Mr. Hawley!” Shane rushed over while Julius tightened his grip on the armrest.
“He’s fine.” Quiana stopped Shane and helped Edward sit up.
“He’s coughing up blood. How can he be fine?” Shane’s face darkened. “Quiana, if anything happens to Mr. Hawley, you-
“Quiet,” Quiana snapped, her patience worn thin. She took a cup from the table, calmly catching Edward’s blood. Only after filling half the cup did he finally stop.
Edward opened his eyes, his gaze unfocused. “Quiana?”
“It’s me. Lie down and don’t move.” Quiana helped Edward lie down. One by one, she removed the silver needles. Then, she turned to get some water for Edward to rinse his mouth.
Julius approached and took the cup from Quiana’s hands. “Let me.”
Quiana handed the cup to Julius and stepped aside to clean the silver needles with a damp cloth. “The clotted blood pressed against his heart has been cleared. I’ll prepare a few more prescriptions for him.”
Shane was incredulous. “He’s cured?”
Quiana shook her head. “His organs are deteriorating naturally. This only slows the decline. At most, he’ll live another five years.”
“Five years…” Julius‘ grip tightened, his brow furrowed.
“Be grateful.” Quiana put away the silver needles and said, “Without me, he would’ve only had five months.”
Edward was over 70 years old, bearing the weight of decades–old injuries and illnesses. His time was limited; not even a miracle worker could fully heal him.
A flicker of complex emotion crossed Julius‘ eyes. He pursed his lips and asked Quiana, “Is there truly no way to give him
more time?”

“Five years… that’s enough.” Edward gradually regained consciousness and he seemed to understand why Quiana was here. However, his breathing was still weak and shallow.
Julius was worried. “How are you feeling?”
“Much better now that I’ve coughed up some blood.” Edward sat up, leaning against the pillow, his eyes clouded. “I never imagined Quiana would be so skilled in medicine.”
Quiana chuckled. “My skills are just passable.”
Shane thought, ‘Passable? What does she take the National Medical Bureau for?
‘Many doctors here were at a loss and hesitated to try, yet you cured the illness with some silver needles. Where would the reputation of the National Medical Bureau stand if this got out?‘ Shane’s expression grew grim.
