“You!” Derek wanted to scold Julius but dared not. Standing to the side, Joshua wore a grim expression. At this point, none of them cared if Edward would recover. What mattered was the control over the Hawley family.
Joshua turned to Paul. “Dr. Spence, you’re here with a team of renowned doctors, yet you’re letting a young brat from the slums treat my father?”
Paul frowned, unsure what was happening. Even if Quiana possessed medical skills, Paul believed that at her age, she couldn’t compare to the experts of the National Medical Bureau.
During this time, Paul had observed more about Quiana. Yet, he wondered that at only 19, with her carefree, irreverent attitude, how much medical skill could she really have?
When Julius mentioned bringing in a renowned doctor, Paul had pictured a towering figure in the medical field. Now, he was baffled. “Mr. Hawley, please reconsider,” Paul urged.
Julius stood straight, his cold gaze sweeping over everyone in the room imposingly. “Whatever happens, I’ll take responsibility.”
“Take responsibility? How?” Joshua objected.
Derek chimed in, “Julius, Father’s life is at stake. No one can bear the weight of this.”
After barely resting last night due to apprehending Lucy, Quiana was exhausted. She had just sat through a two–hour flight and was stifling a yawn, struggling to stay awake.
Julius cast a cold glance at Quiana, his frown deepening as his aura grew icy. “Leo,” he commanded. Catching the cue, Leo raised his fingers to his lips and gave a sharp whistle.
Suddenly, a group of men in black rushed in, and without a word, began escorting Derek and Joshua out of the room. Everyone was stunned.
“What are you doing?” Derek asked.
“Let go,” Joshua demanded. “Julius, we’re your brothers. What are you doing?”
Derek and Joshua recognized the men in black to be Shadow Guards stationed around the Hawley manor. They struggled to break free, but failed and were thrown out.
Julius wheeled himself, guiding Quiana into the bedroom. Seeing that, Paul frowned and dissuaded, “Mr. Hawley-”
“Do you want to be dragged out too?” Julius glanced at Paul, who had his mouth agape. Paul looked at Shane, who sighed and shook his head, signaling Paul to keep his mouth shut. Following Julius, Quiana entered the room.
Joshua and Derek, who were thrown out into the courtyard, tried to force their way back in. However, Leo stood guard by the door, preventing their entry. The two locked eyes, their faces darkening.
Neither had imagined the elusive Shadow Guards, only ever loyal to the head of the Hawley family, would answer to Julius.
Inside the room, Edward lay on the bed with his eyes tightly shut. His wrinkled face was drained of color, looking alarmingly pale.
His breathing was weak like he was teetering at death’s door. He seemed older compared to before.
Everyone had left the room, leaving only Shane, who walked over to hand Quiana a folder. “These are Mr. Hawley’s medical

records.”

“No need.” Quiana didn’t take or glance at the records. She sat by the bedside, swiftly checking Edward’s visible symptoms before grasping his wrist to feel his pulse. Silence enveloped the room.
After a while, Quiana let go, her brows furrowed. Julius was visibly anxious. “How is he?”
Quiana shook her head. “It’s a long–term illness compounded by the natural aging process.”
Shane was stunned. “But we found that he has-”
“Vascular lesions and heart tumor, correct?” Quiana interrupted.
“Yes,” Shane said. Pausing, he asked, “Did you… determine this by feeling his pulse?”

“Traditional medicine has a long history. When practiced enough, even observing a person’s complexion alone reveals their ailment,” Quiana replied.
Julius looked at Quiana, his gaze impassive. “Can he be treated?” Edward’s heart tumor was benign and had been previously addressed by Paul, but the underlying issue persisted.
