Chapter 6
That time, I stayed in the hospital for a long while.
My brother came to see me once.
He gave me a scornful look.
He asked if I admitted my mistake, saying that if I hadn’t pushed Irene into the water, I wouldn’t have ended up like this. This was all my own doing.
Luckily, his Irene was unharmed; otherwise, he would have made me pay dearly.
He also said that having a sister like me was the worst luck he could have in a thousand years.
He wondered what terrible things he must have done to deserve a sister like me.
His words felt like the claws of a demon, squeezing my heart so tightly that I could barely breathe.
Maybe it was because I was sick, and my body was in immense pain.
Maybe it was because of the fever, and my head was pounding incessantly.
Very soon, in my eyes, my brother’s image transformed into a monstrous figure, baring its teeth and claws, ready to swallow me whole.
I couldn’t take it anymore and, for the first time, I yelled back at him.
“I told you! It was Irene who pulled me into the water! Why don’t you believe me?!”
“Do you think I want to be your sister?! I wish I had never been born! I’d rather not have a brother like you!”
