Chapter 14 14
Chapter 14
I clutched my chest, wondering if Mom was looking down on me from heaven.
My brother Shane forced a polite smile as he descended the stairs, holding onto the
handrail.
The police wasted no time, flashing their badges and asking, “Are you Caitlin’s brother?”
Shane nodded, a bit anxious, and spoke up before the police could continue. “Yes, I am. Did Caitlin do something wrong? Don’t worry, I’ll make sure she learns her lesson…”
One of the officers looked impatient. “Are you actually her brother? She’s been dead for a week, and you had no idea?”
Another officer chimed in, “Ha, looks like he never even bothered to look for his sister. And now he talks about educating her.”
“Alright, come with us. You can see her at the morgue,” the young officer said bluntly, earning a harsh glare from the older officer.
Shane seemed unsteady on his feet, his steps faltering. Fortunately, Butler Wang was quick to support him.
He smiled, but it looked more like a grimace than a smile. “Officers, you must be joking, right? How could someone like Caitlin die so easily?”
The older officer turned away. “Mr. Nash, please cooperate and come with us to the
station.”
Shane stumbled after them.
At the morgue.
My body had been stitched up by the forensic doctor, covered in crooked, jagged suture
marks.
I floated forward. So, this is how ugly I looked after death.
Chapter 14.14
My head had been crushed by Carson, and the forensic doctor had painstakingly pieced it together. It was a gruesome sight.
I sighed, feeling a bit sorry for the forensic doctor.
Turning around, I saw Shane’s tears streaming down his face. His eyes were filled with bewilderment as he approached, reaching out to touch me but pulling back as if
shocked.
“Officers, this face is barely recognizable… How could this be Caitlin?”
my
He wiped away his tears, turning resolutely to the police.
The older officer produced a report. “The DNA comparison results are out. It’s Caitlin, no doubt.”
Shane’s face turned several shades paler, his hands trembling uncontrollably. He lunged at my corpse, laughing and crying simultaneously.
“Caitlin, Caitlin, how did you end up like this… How could this happen to you?”
“Tell me this isn’t you, Caitlin, this isn’t you.”
The young officer nearby wrinkled his nose in disgust. “Everyone knows the Nash Group’s CEO has always hated his sister. What’s with the act now?”
His voice was just loud enough for Shane to catch.
He stiffened, muttering, “It’s not like that, it’s not.”
I floated above, perhaps because I’d been in this ghostly state for too long. My feelings were muted, not as sorrowful as I had expected. It was just unbelievable.
My brother Shane, actually mourning my death?
The way he held my body looked like a scene of deep sibling affection. But he had always hated me.
I began to wonder, what would Dad’s reaction be when he found out I was dead?
