Chapter 143
Genevieve
“Why did you leave Elara with that beast?” My mother scolded, pacing around the hall. She had asked the–same question numerous times, but I ignored her. I didn’t intentionally leave Elara, but she had everything under control. He listened to her, and it made me jealous.
It was wrong, but since our intimate moment the other day, I kept thinking of Kaiden. His body pressed on mine was all I could pictured, and Michael noticed. It was difficult controlling whatever this attraction was. I resisted the urge to beg Kaiden to fuck me. I avoided him like a plague for my own good. Elara knew about my secret, yet she remained silent, making me nervous each time she was around Michael. I was scared she would spill my secret to Michael, she was like a ticking bomb.
“Why are you so quiet?” Michael asked, narrowing his eyes. I shook my head, snapping out of my trance. I lowered my gaze, averting his eyes so he couldn’t see the jealous I was desperately trying to hide.
“You weren’t even listening!” Mom snapped angrily, slapping her hand in her face in frustration.
I was listening. I had been listening to all her grumbles, but something stood off about last night. I hadn’t missed an ingredient, or any step so what went wrong with the spell? It may have been the first time performing such spell, but I was careful last night. He wasn’t supposed to react like that to the spell. Like it repel him.
“Did you do it?” I asked with accusatory gaze, staring at Michael. He hated Kaiden, and tried to do everything to stop curse binding spell even going as far as threatening me with our relationship.

“What do you mean?” He shot back in confusion. I stared at him intensely, blinking my eyes on finding no traces of lies on him.
Had he gotten better in lying or he was being honest?
My lips parted to speak, but the creaking sound of door shut me up. In walked Elara with a new dress. Her eyes burned into mine in judgement. She was pissed about what happened last night.
“Elara, you’re here.” My mom beamed, rushing to hug her. She inspected her body for any wound, exhaling when she didn’t see any, until her eyes landed on her neck.
“He did this to you?” She snarled, arching her neck to the side to get a clearer view. I stretched my neck forward seeing the marks of claws.
“I’m fine.” Elara reassured with a tight smile, stepping back.
“You’re not fine! What were you thinking jumping into the circle like that?” She reprimanded in a stern expression.
Elara chewed the inside of her cheeks, raising her eyes to meet mine. Her eyes turned into disgust as she stared for long. “Was it you, Mom?” She asked coldly, her eyes fixed on mine.
There was a sardonic look in her eyes causing a shift in my mood. She didn’t need to rub it in my face that she slept with
him.
“What are you talking about?” My mom asked innocently. Elara smiled bitterly finally breaking eye contact as she stepped closer to mom.
“Why did you do it? Cause he’s a werewolf?” She badgered, taking another step towards her with clenched fist.
I jolted from my chair, standing behind my mom in a protective manner.
“Stay out of this, Evie.” She snapped her eyes to me with a warning look. My mouth gaped in shock staring at her flushed face. This was the first time in years I was seeing her this angry, and it was for him?

“Don’t talk to your sister like that.” Mom said, her voice fading as she stared at anywhere, but at Elara. My hand dropped from her shoulders in realization. She had brought in the ingredients for the spell. Why didn’t I think to her?
Maybe because I never knew she could be that cruel towards a person she despised.
“Don’t try to run away from this.” She gritted, glaring at her angrily.
“Fine! I did it!” Mom screamed in acceptance, “So what? Are you going to kill me for it?”
Why hadn’t I noticed the black candle was different from the usual used for breaking curses? They were two kinds of black candles; one was used for cursing a person, and the other was used in binding curses.
“Mom!” I yelled, staring at her in disbelief. “I know his kind wronged us, but mixing up the candles? That’s a little low even for you.” I laughed in bitterness. All night I had treated Michael coldly because I believed he was responsible for it.
“I can’t believe you are supporting her in this madness.” Mom grumbled in defiance, anger flashing in her eyes.
“This is wrong, and you know it. Isn’t that why we hid this from the other witches?” She added, trying to sway my emotions with words.
“Your mom is right. Whatever she did was for the best.” Michael defended, like the perfect son he was.
“If you don’t find a way to undo whatever you’ve done to him…” Elara threatened, her eyes burning into my skin.
“What would you do, huh?” My mom raised her voice in challenge. Elara chuckled, nibbling in her lower lips as she glanced at us before taking a step back, and another till she hit her back on the wooden door.
She smirked, pulling out a knife from the side of her pants, and darting it to is. My eyes widen in shock as the blade brushed past my Mom, me and hitting the wall behind us. I let out a shaky breath, raising my hand to my cheek, and feeling a warm liquid on my hand.
I was bleeding. She hurt me because of Kaiden?
“Ginny!” Michael yelled, crossing the room. He grabbed my arm, and shaking out of my shock.
“Have you lost it, Elara?” My mom said with silent fear, her eyes glued to my face. I swallowed the lump in my throat, turning to look at her.
“You hurt… me?” I stammered, blinking my eyes.
“That’s exactly what I will do.” She response with indifference, spinning in her heels.
“Do you like him?” I asked with raised eyebrows. She paused, arching her neck towards me.
“How about you? Do you like him?” She shot back, storming off the room without another word.
I may like him, but not in the unhealthy was she was falling for him. Not to the extent of hurting people around me just to prove my point. Only people in love acted that way. She was in love with Kaiden.
