I asked him in return, “Do you really not know why I don’t want to marry you?”
“You’re still holding onto what happened with Vivian?” Owen understood. “You should be able to see my side of things. I lost my memory, and Vivian deceived me. The moment I recovered, I made things clear with her. And when I found out how badly she
hurt you, I took revenge on her.”
Vivtan’s death was indeed connected to Owen. He had used every possible means to make her die in such a humiliating way.
But looking at him now, I only felt another wave of disappointment. “Owen, I’m not a fool. Whether you really lost your memory
or were just pretending–I know the truth.”
His entire body trembled. “That’s impossible.”
“The day I got my hands on my medical records, I had originally planned to tell you what Vivian did to me. But when I went looking for you, I overheard your conversation with those people.” I stared directly into his eyes.
“Owen, you’ve let me down too much. I nearly lost my life because of you, and this is how you repay me. What right do you have
to ask for my forgiveness and for me to marry you?”
My words hit him like a crushing blow. He almost lost his balance. The pain in his eyes was overwhelming. “No, Shannon.
Everything I did was for you.”
“Was it really for me? Or for yourself? Only you know the answer to that.”
I picked up my suitcase and walked out. “Owen, did you really think that you covered your tracks so perfectly? The police aren’t
blind. You’d better prepare yourself.”
As I reached the door, I ran into Luca, who had just returned home. His eyes lit up when he saw me.
