I didn’t know which irked me the most–the fact that Kaiden didn’t bother attending Layla’s dad funeral or that he had the leisure time to share his location to me, urging me to meet him.

But I knew I was pissed at him. He basically sponsored her dad’s medical bills before he passed on, and Layla was once his employee, isn’t that enough reason to show up?

“So what do think aboun Derek?” Layla quipped, sinking on the chair close to me. We were done burying her dad’s body, in was just me and her left.

“He seems nice,” I remarked, blinking my eyes, while vaguely trying to remember what he looks like. He made an appearance during the early hours of the burial but left shortly afterwards.

“Just nice?” She pressed, scrunching her face. “Don’t you think he’s good looking and charming?”

“I barely saw him, Layla, I wouldn’t have possibly taken note of all that in seconds,” I responded flatly, almost rolling my eyes. I was in a sour mood because of Kaiden’s behavior, and couldn’t study her new crush or should I say “boyfriend”

“I need to go now. I announced, rising from the chair.

“Huh? You plan on leaving me here all alone?” She whined, blinking at me.

“Your cousin is coming over, remember?” I responded, raising an eyebrow. She pouted in dissatisfaction but said nothing as 1 walked out of the doors.

I hailed a cab to Kaiden’s location. I didn’t know my way around the town, but thankful the cab driver happened to know the place after showing the location to him.

My heart limped out of my chest as he drove towards the woods. I checked my phone several times to make sure we were going the right way, and that he wasn’t planning to harm me

“This is how far I can get you, Miss. It’s a private property,” the driver announced, staring at me from his front mirror. I glanced around from the window, and only met a deserted area with a narrow path.

I nodded, plastering a smile on my face as I stepped out of the car. I paid for the ride, watching the car disappear out of eyesight.

I huffed, glancing at the road which lead down to the private property he had mentioned. What would Kaiden be possibly doing in a place like this? And why was I even here again, when I’m mad at him?

1 scrolled through my phone, deciding to call him but it went straight to voicemail. I groaned in frustration, my feet moving down the path before I could even process it. I followed the guide from my phone, and ended up at an old house with stone

walls.

I stood outside the walls, my eyes crinkling as I stared at the building which looked like no one lived in. Was this some of prank? But Kaiden’s car was parked right outside.

My curiosity drove me into the building, my heart pounding as I walked inside the house, and I admit it was warmer compared to the outer walls,

I heard Kaiden’s voice as I strolled deeper into the house, and for a moment I realized I was trespassing but I cared less right now. Following the sound of his voice, I came to halt in front of a door. Inhaling sharply, I grabbed the door handle, pulling open the door.

My eyes met with hardened faces of several people who all seemed to be gouging my soul. The room held about 20 persons who stared at me weirdly, some with visible disgust causing my skin to crawl. It was eerily silent though their expression.

Chapter 32

spoke volume.

My checks burned in embarrassment, realizing they were in a meeting from the way they were assembled. I bowed my head slightly, offering them an apologetic look as I turned on my heels to leave.

“Aurora?” Kaiden’s voice sounded through the room, stopping me in my tracks.

spun around, my eyes meeting his cold blue eyes. He was sitting on a throne positioned at the center of the stage, with Derek and Ryker standing by his both side. It wasn’t hard to tell he was heading the meeting. How had I missed his overpowering presence earlier?

Maybe because you weren’t looking his direction, my inner voice attacked.

“What are you doing here?” He asked angrily, stepping out of his seats and taking steady strides towards me. The question angered me. He was the one who asked to see me here and he dare asks me what am doing here!

“You said to meet you here, remember?” I retorted sarcastically as he stood in front of me. I could hear gasp from the hall, and some of his teammates eyes widened in almost disbelief.

They appeared stunned that Kaiden was talking to me?

“Let’s go home.” He commanded with a stoic voice, pulling away from the room before I could even react to his command

“Why are we leaving?” I asked in a snarky tone, “did you make me come down to this forest for nothing?” I spat angrily. yanking my arms away from his grip.

“I have no idea about what you talking about.” He growled out angrily, grabbing my arm and dragging me into a room before I could protest.

“What do you mean by that? You sent me your location to me, requesting that I meet you here.” I snapped slipping my arms away, and shoving my phone to his face so he could read his message.

“I didn’t fucking send this.” He barked out, glancing through the text.

didn’t send it? This text came from you!” I argued angrily.

“If I said I didn’t do it, then it means I didn’t, Aurora.” He snarled, “We’re going home now and you’ll come with me without throwing any tantrums until we get home.” He ordered, leaving no room for argument.

“Why are you in a rush to leave?” I persisted stubbornly, ignoring the edge in his voice.

“This is no place for a girl like you.” He responded darkly, his face void of any emotions. Without warning he scooped me into his arms, and I struggled to get out but he ignored my protest, walking out of the room

“Drop me down now.” I demanded but he ignored me, walking to his car. I was curious about a lot of things, but I doubt I would get an answer to my questions.

He set me down in the passenger’s seat, crossing the seat belt across me before walking to the other side. I sank into the the seat fuming silently, staring at him start the car and drive off in a rush. I stared out of the window, my mind drifting from the scene I had witness.

Where exactly was this place and why did it seem like they were scared of him? And if Kaiden hadn’t sent the text message then who did?
