Chapter 23
After smoking a cigarette outside, Fabian entered the VIP hospital room.
Inside, Dr. Cotter was there for a consultation.
Seeing Fabian arrive, Cotter greeted him with a slight smile. “Good timing, Fabian. The preliminary plan is done–we just need to set the surgery date.”
Given the grandma’s weak condition, she needed more time to build her strength. Dr. Cotter set the surgery date for two weeks later.
Having arranged to meet an old friend, Dr. Cotter was personally escorted by Fabian to the parking lot.
Along the way, Cotter lavished praise on Chesca.
Before leaving, he clapped Fabian’s shoulder with a knowing smile. “Treat her well. I can tell she’s an exceptional woman. Don’t let her slip away.”
Fabian smiled politely as he opened the car door. “Don’t worry, uncle Cotter.”
Dr. Cotter smiled and got in.
After the car pulled away, Fabian stood watching for a moment before returning to the hospital room.
Chesca was chatting with her grandmother. Seeing Fabian return, she offered a faint smile. “I guess I owe you a thank you for making this surgery possible for Grandma.”
Fabian came to her side, lightly slipping an arm around her shoulders. “I’m your
husband–There’s no need for thanks.”
Chesca felt uncomfortable with the closeness and tried to pull away.
Her grandmother noticed the tension. Though she had once advised Chesca to divorce,

seeing Fabian so attentive now made her hope for a normal family life for her granddaughter, so she remained quiet.
Fabian put on such a convincing performance that even Amy began to believe he had turned over a new leaf and was fully dedicated to his family.
Only Chesca knew this was merely Fabian’s protective mask–all his kindness came with a price tag.
She had something Fabian wanted.
For example, her relationship with Mrs. Richmond and her potential contribution to the
Yolo Export project.
Sure enough, once they left the hospital, Fabian brought it up..
“Mrs. Richmond has sent word,” Chesca replied calmly. “Yolo is genuinely interested in
cooperation, but they’re dissatisfied with the management at Leshine. There’s a basic lack
of trust.”

While driving, Fabian naturally followed up. “You mean Veronica?”
Chesca’s expression cooled. “I’ve been away from Leshine for some time. How would I know what’s happening inside the company?”
Conveniently, they reached a red light, and Fabian stopped the car.
Gripping the steering wheel, he turned to Chesca with complete seriousness. “Whether you believe me or not, there’s nothing going on between Veronica and me.”
Chesca was momentarily taken aback, then smiled faintly.
His words? Empty promises.
Fabian was determined to build real feelings with Chesca. He decided then and there to remove Veronica from the project team. He couldn’t stand being around her. She just annoyed him.

He casually brought it up to Chesca, but she remained indifferent. “I’m not at Leshine anymore. These matters aren’t my concern.”
The light turned green…
Stepping on the gas, Fabian focused on the road ahead, smiling subtly. “Mr. Elkedonia is under Mrs. Elkedonia’s control.”
His flirtation was obvious–how could she miss it?
Chesca simply played dumb.
Having hit neither resistance nor encouragement, Fabian wasn’t bothered. After a short drive, he pulled over next to a pharmacy.
Chesca turned to him. “Are you sick?”
Fabian unbuckled his seatbelt, grabbing his wallet as he got out. “Just need to pick something up.”
と
A moment later, Fabian walked into the pharmacy and casually selected two boxes of condoms at the checkout counter–extra large.
As the cashier scanned the items, she briefly glanced up, then couldn’t look away.
He was incredibly handsome, and those long legs…
Fabian returned to the car, casually placing the box on the dashboard, then buckled his
seatbelt like it was just another day.
Chesca couldn’t pretend not to notice. She turned her face away, her voice deliberately flat.
“Honestly, we don’t need this.”
Fabian glanced at her.
After last night’s sexing, Chesca’s skin looked especially radiant, glowing with a cool,

ethereal beauty. She had that fresh, untouched look that made her seem even more
untouchable.
Fabian’s Adam’s apple bobbed. “We agreed to wait two years before trying for a child!”
Chesca turned back to face him, studying him silently. She couldn’t understand why he’d suddenly changed his mind about children.
That night, Fabian used two condoms.
Perhaps without the pressure of procreation, he was less restrained in his desires, far more passionate than usual.
Chesca caught a cold from their exertions.
The next morning, she woke to find Fabian’s side of the bed empty, though sounds of running water from the bathroom indicated he was still home.
Then, moments later, he emerged impeccably dressed, a thin tie in hand, asking Chesca to
knot it for him.

Chesca felt unwell and didn’t want to move, also uncomfortable with the closeness.
But Fabian was insistent.
He bent down to make it easier for her, and Chesca reluctantly raised herself slightly. It was a routine she had done a thousand times before, and even with her eyes closed, she could tie it perfectly.
As she adjusted his tie, Fabian gazed down at her, watching the soft way she moved.
Her delicate face was pale, glossy gloden hair spread across the pillow, a loose white robe draped over her slender frame–everything reminiscent of last night’s sexing.
Two consecutive nights of lovemaking had left him addicted.
If not for Chesca’s fragile state, he wouldn’t have stopped last night. The intensity of his desire alarmed even himself.
Chapter 23
He’d always prided himself on his self–control.
And he’d never felt such powerful physical attraction toward Chesca before.
In moments, she finished with his tie.
Smoothing the knot, she murmured, “Fabian, we couldn’t be a loving couple for the past
four years, and we certainly can’t start now. Don’t waste your energy on me. Whatever your purpose, whatever you’re thinking–it’s pointless.”
Fabian didn’t respond, his gaze deep and impenetrable, filled with something she couldn’t
decipher.
Fabian left for work.
Chesca tried to get up, but her head was spinning.
Fortunately, Ella came in to check on her and found that she was sick.
She brought a digital thermometer, and when she took Chesca’s temperature, it read
102.7°F–a serious fever.
“Mrs. Elkedonia, you’re burning up!”
Not daring to be careless, she knew how delicate Chesca’s health was.
If anything went wrong, it would be on her.
While preparing medication, she made a call to Fabian, hoping to get his opinion on how to
proceed.
