Chapter 4
Elizabeth left when I was only eight years old. It was on my father Anthony’s birthday.
That day. I’d come home filled with excitement, eager to celebrate Dad’s birthday. But as soon as I entered the house. I saw my parents silently sitting across from each other, with a document coldly placed between them.
I didn’t understand at the time, but later I realized–it was a divorce agreement, just like the one I’m facing now.
Overwhelmed by panic, I’d stumbled and fallen down the stairs, my shoes lost somewhere along the way. But I felt no pain: all I could think about was running to Elizabeth. I desperately clung to her legs, sobbing uncontrollably. “Mom, please don’t leave!”
She gently reached down, caressed my tear streaked face, and softly whispered, “I’m sorry.”
“Mom, I ranked first in class this time! You haven’t seen my report card yet; it needs your signature.”
“Mom, please don’t go–I promise I’ll be good! I won’t beg you to take me to the amusement park anymore. I’ll behave myself, Mom, please stay…”
My frantic pleas spilled out incoherently, hoping they’d somehow persuade her to remain.
But Elizabeth only shook her head quietly, telling me gently that she wasn’t happy in her marriage, and she’d finally found real happiness elsewhere.
I stood in silence, my throat tight and burning.
“I know
you must hate me,” Elizabeth said gently. “But you were too young then, and there was so much I couldn’t
explain clearly to you.”
Elizabeth reached out and softly touched my cheek, her eyes filled with tenderness. “My daughter has grown up. I’m staving permanently in BlueOcean Pack from now on. I know your family is facing hardships, but everything will
e alright. Mom will take good care of you now.”
At that moment, I realized that all those deep–rooted resentments seemed insignificant compared to hearing the simple warmth of the word ‘Mom.‘ Tears welled in my eyes as I whispered softly, my voice shaking, “Mom.”
“Good girl,” Elizabeth comforted me. “Stay for dinner. My mate is very kind to me, and he has a daughter two years older than you. She and her fiancé will join us today; I’ll introduce you all.”
I had no intention of becoming part of my mother’s new family. Hastily interrupting, I said, “Mom, I’m only here today for Dad. You know the Parker family went bankrupt. Dad’s heart disease has worsened significantly, and I can’t afford his surgery. Could you please help me? I promise I’ll pay you back someday.”
Before Elizabeth could reply, a familiar voice suddenly interjected from the doorway, dripping with sarcasm, “Celeste, you must truly be desperate to come all the way here for money.”

Hearing that voice felt like a sudden lightning strike, freezing me instantly. Turning around, I couldn’t believe my eyes at the sight of the two people walking calmly into the room.
Marina and Dominic.
Fate truly played its cruelest joke today–my own mother was Marina’s stepmother. My mate and mother were now family to each other.
Even more humiliating, I’d been caught red–handed begging my own mother for money in front of Marina and Dominic.
Dominic stood to the side, his eyes calm and unreadable as he silently watched my anxious, embarrassed expression without speaking a word.
“Wah…wah…”
The sudden sound of babies crying pierced the tense, awkward atmosphere. Only then did I notice the nanny carefully pushing a double stroller into the room.
At the babies‘ first cries, Dominic immediately stepped forward and skillfully took one of them into his arms, softly soothing the little one.
The warm, loving image of this perfect family of four was unbearably painful in my eyes. If my child had survived, they would have been about this age now.
Regret immediately filled me. Why had I come here today, only to endure such humiliation?
Strangely, despite Dominic and Marina’s attempts to soothe the child, the little one refused to calm down. The nanny quickly prepared milk, but the baby’s cries grew louder instead.
With gentle patience, Dominic whispered repeatedly, “It’s alright, baby, don’t cry.”
Seeing Dominic’s tenderness towards the child caused my heart to twist bitterly. A sudden impulse made me step forward boldly and reach out, silently asking to take the crying child from Dominic’s arms.
Surprisingly, Dominic didn’t resist or say a word, simply allowing me to take the baby.
Almost immediately, the child’s crying ceased, replaced by innocent, adorable giggles. The baby boy, nearly a year old, looked up at her with bright eyes, rosy cheeks flushed, small hands grabbing curiously at the ribbons on Celeste’s collar.
“Mama,” the baby babbled softly, his eyes sparkling brightly as they gazed up at her with warmth and happin Even at such a young age, his delicate facial features clearly resembled Dominic’s.
I felt a sharp, stabbing pain in my heart at that moment. I once believed Dominic had truly loved me.
During their first blissful year of marriage, on their honeymoon, he’d whispered tenderly into my ear, “Celes, let’s have a child. I want to see you become the mother of my pups.”

For him, I’d willingly become pregnant, even though it meant leaving university unfinished and my dreams or hold
Yet I’d never realized that while sharing sweet intimacy with me. Dominic had already been entangled with
another woman abroad.
A sudden wave of nausea overwhelmed me. Hastily handing the baby back to Dominic. I jourried into the bathroom locking the door behind me. I hadn’t eaten much, and what I vomited painfully was nothing fest bile tinged with
blood.
I lost all control, tears silently streaming down my face, feeling utterly humiliated and ashamed.
Our marriage, our mate bond–all of it had been nothing more than a cruel joke from the very beginning i was the only fool who’d believed it wholeheartedly.
The confusion I’d felt about so many things was finally clear now. The truth had always been there, waiting patiently to be revealed.
After some time, a knock sounded gently on the bathroom door.
“Celeste, are you alright?”
Taking a moment to clean myself up, I splashed cold water on my pale face and shakily stepped outside.
Dominic and Marina stood at the doorway, expressionlessly observing my embarrassment. Elizabeth, unaware of their complicated relationships, asked with genuine concern, “Celeste, do you feel sick?”
“I simply felt nauseous seeing these two people,” I replied
coldly. “But I’m much better now after vomiting”
Elizabeth seemed puzzled. “Celeste, you know Marina? She’s lived abroad for so long, perhaps there’s some misunderstanding between you two. And this gentleman here is Alpha Kingsford-”
I abruptly interrupted my mother’s explanation, my voice laced with cold irony, “Of course I know. Who in this city doesn’t recognize Alpha Kingsford? The talented and young Alpha of BlueOcean Pack.”
Elizabeth nodded, still confused. “Yes, Alpha Kingsford is truly remarkable. Despite being so young, he’s already accomplished so much-”
I laughed bitterly, cutting Elizabeth off again, “Indeed, Alpha Kingsford is quite remarkable. Even before severing an existing mate bond, he’s eager to form a new one. Ordinary werewolves certainly can’t match such boldness.”
My sarcasm was sharp and cutting as I turned to face Dominic directly, my eyes brimming with icy bitterness.” Alpha Kingsford claims to be single and without a mate, what exactly does that make me? Alpha Kingsford, pe you’d like to personally inform my mother who I truly am to you?”
