Chapter 25
RUBY DOUGLAS
“That mean I get to attend this banquet?”
If Gavin caught the excitement in my tone, his wearied expression didn’t show it.
“Could you leave so I can focus on work?”

Leaving wasn’t my intention. Did he not see how happy I was each time we were together? Did he not see how much I liked him?
“Can I stay? I’ll keep my lips sealed.”
“You distract me, Ruby.”
“Is that a good thing?” I batted my lashes and leaned into him by his desk.
I so much wanted to pull him in for a kiss. No one ever treated me like I was made of glass the way he did.
He didn’t respond and his gaze didn’t roam from my parted lips, this made me lean in the more.
“I’m not going to get hurt. I’m not expecting you to love me so I won’t get disappointed when this is over.”
I gave him reasons to wipe off the hesitations from his face and take the initiative. I wanted him to touch me, more than anything.
“I swear never to let anyone know we did it,” I dropped on him, straddling his thigh. “I’m not a snitch, no one would know.” My lips ravenously assailed his in a slow and tantalizing kiss. A low rumble sound echoed in his throat as his hand gently rummaged my body sending sweet signals to the heated places in me. He smacked my butt and a yelp from my mouth was muffled by his.
How could he not want this and more the way I did?
A knock on the door pulled me from his lips. And before I could snap to my feet and adjust my dress Denise planted herself in the office. Her wide eyes searched the scene before her.
Oh, she caught him cheating. This wasn’t good.
I made to get off from Gavin but his steely grip held me back on his thigh. What was he doing? His girlfriend was here. “Can I help you?” He asked her with the most gruff tone he used only when he was outside.
My heart hammered loudly in my chest. If this escalated, I’d get trapped in the middle. I’d be beaten up real bad by the fuming Blondie.
“Did I disrupt anything, your Majesty?” Denise asked, trying not to sound betrayed. Hurt. Or whatever the emotion in her
eyes was.
“No.” I tried to get up again.
“Yes,” He restrained me all over again, “Now turn the fuck around and
get
lost!”
Denise blinked repeatedly, her face one expression away from tears and rage. She shot me a glare and her pink image turned back out of the office slamming the door.

“Why did you talk to her that way?
“You too!” He growled.
“You should’ve at least…
“Get the fuck off!”
Even though his tone was not as hard as earlier, the disappointment in my soul instantly welled up tears in my eyes and I didn’t know how to keep myself from crying
The disappointment was too great to bear.
I got to my feet and dried my eyes.
He sprang to his feet and grabbed my arm, I shoved him off.
“Leave me alone!” I snapped, scowling at him.
“Ruby…” His tone softened which made me sob more.
Drew walked in next and paused by the door to consider the little show his boss and the Omega girl were putting forth.
Gavin heaved a breath and walked towards him as though appreciating the distraction.
I remained by his desk unsure of how to leave. I didn’t want to sob the entire afternoon alone in my room. So I waited by his desk watching him receive the carton in Drew’s possession.
Dropped it on the coffee table and chatted with his assistant about the content of the carton. Acting like I wasn’t still in his home office,
“There’s two more in the truck” Drew cocked his head towards the carton and left to bring them.
Unexpectedly, Gavin joined him leaving me all alone. Not like they were going to take forever. I edged closer to see the content of the carton just then, my gaze landed on the medieval ring.
The need to covet it aced out every other object in the office. I reached for the plastic casing on the King’s desk.
Just then, they returned with the cartons.
Gavin squinted his gaze my way, to realize I’d moved from my initial position. Or was he surprised to find me still here?
“Move from my desk.” He commanded condescendingly.
“I didn’t take it.” I showed him my palms.
The two men swapped cursory glances before they looked my way again.
“Take what?” Drew prodded.
I shook my head and started towards the door. They didn’t try to stop me when I walked out the door. The medieval ring was very pretty. I’d wear it all the time if it was mine.
It would’ve been mine if they didn’t return so soon. Quite a loss. Temporary loss.
I headed to grab some water in the kitchen only to meet Denise in there. Eyes suggesting she wasn’t pleased with me. I nearly turned back.
“I don’t understand why our king chose to keep that girl here.” Hannah sounded so bitter, unaware I was by the door.

“She’s just a cheap desperate slut!” Denise’s gaze directed her words to me. “A very pathetic one!”
Her challenging tone and manner threatened me into whirling around, to scurry off to safety.
“Bring that lowly Omega to me this second!”
I heard her instruct Gavin’s housekeeper.

To my horror, I caught a glimpse of Gavin shrugging into his jacket outside the mansion by the truck, got in the driver’s seat and Drew sprinted over to the front seat.
Oh no.
Hannah’s grip was firm on my arm before I could make it to the front door.
“Lady Denise requests to have a word with you,” her smirks made it clear there was no way of escape.
“I’m busy.” I tried not to show just how afraid I was, “The king needs me to do a few things…”
“Like suck his rocks?” Denise appeared in the living area.
This certainly was the end of me.
