Chapter 4
Jason’s pupils constricted.
“I…”
Before he could finish, Kelsey’s lips curled into a bitter smile.
“Kidding. I’m not pregnant. Just getting a routine physical.”
Jason blinked, then frowned. “Why would you need a physical if nothing’s wrong?”
“I haven’t been feeling well,” Kelsey replied evenly. “What about you? Are you here with Hannah for her appointment?”
Jason cleared his throat awkwardly.
“Don’t read into it. I just ran into her on my way here and offered her a ride.”
Such a hollow explanation.
And he never once asked what was wrong with Kelsey.
She was beyond caring now. “I have class. I should go.”
She turned and walked away.
Jason never came after her.
The clinic doors closed behind her with a soft hiss, and Kelsey stood motionless for a moment, letting the cool spring air wash over her feverish skin. Her chest ached with a dull, persistent throb that medication couldn’t touch. It wasn’t just that Jason hadn’t asked about her health–it was the complete absence of concern in his eyes. When he looked at Hannah, his gaze held genuine worry. For Kelsey, there was only calculated interest.
She’d been such a fool.
As she walked back toward campus, the cherry blossoms that lined the path seemed to mock her with their perfect beauty. How many times had she and Jason walked this same route? Just last week, he’d picked one of these blossoms and tucked it behind her ear, whispering that nothing could compare to her beauty. The memory made her stomach turn.
The physical exam results in her hand felt heavy. Clean bill of health, except for the lingering effects of stress and the emergency contraception. The doctor had given her that look–part concern, part

judgment–when she explained what had happened. “Be more careful next time,” he’d said. There wouldn’t be a next time. Not with Jason. Not with anyone for a long while.
Kelsey headed straight back to campus.
She couldn’t shake the feeling that people were staring and whispering as she passed. Every glance, every hushed conversation seemed directed at her. Her dancer’s posture–normally so perfect–now felt like armor, the only thing keeping her from collapsing under the weight of their stares.
The brick buildings of Culver loomed overhead, suddenly feeling less like home and more like a prison she couldn’t escape from fast enough. Four more days. Just four more days until she could leave this all behind.
Confused and increasingly anxious, she returned to her dorm. The moment she opened the door, her roommate Zoe ran over in a panic.
“Oh my God, Kelsey! Something terrible happened!”
Zoe thrust her phone into Kelsey’s hands, her eyes wide with distress.
“Your photos are all over the campus social app–you know, THOSE kinds of photos!”
Kelsey’s mind went blank as she took the phone and saw the explicit images flooding the screen. Her hand trembled so violently she nearly dropped the device. Heat rushed to her face–not embarrassment, but pure, undiluted fury.
But after the initial shock, she exhaled slightly.
“These are fake,” she said immediately, her voice steadier than she expected. “None of them are real.”
For a terrifying moment, she’d thought Jason had taken pictures of her and leaked them online. The thought had made her physically ill–that their most intimate moments, the ones where she’d been most vulnerable, might have been secretly recorded. But looking closer at the images, it was obvious they weren’t her.
Thankfully, all the photos were clearly photoshopped.
Zoe sighed. “I know they’re fake. You have that birthmark on your thigh that’s not in any of these. They’re
terrible fakes.”
“But people online don’t care about that. Look at the comments… they’re horrible–wait, Kelsey, what are you doing?”
Kelsey had already pulled out her phone, her fingers steady despite

the final straw.
“Calling campus security,” she said coldly. “And then the police. They can track down whoever posted
these.”
A few crude jokes she could ignore.
But this was criminal. She wouldn’t stay silent. Not anymore. She was done being the quiet, accommodating girl who let people walk all over her. The person who did this–and Kelsey had a sinking feeling she knew exactly who was behind it–needed to face consequences.
Just as she was dialing, their other roommate Mia burst through the door, breathless from running.
“Kelsey! Your boyfriend is in a fight outside the dining hall!”
